I'm reading the comic instead. I just really like Jae Lee's pencils.

I've heard the ending's all kinds of rubbish. And that the series as a whole goes tits-up about the time King got hit by the van.

I thought that about the ending the first time I read it. Then I re-read it and it was actually just about perfect.
The thing about the time of King's accident is fucked up but amazingly done.

When did that start? I'd completely forgotten about it.

The novels go tits up when King introduces himself as a character and/or when they take a brief trip into The Stand universe. Still, about half the books are pretty good (especially the one that goes into Roland's backstory) and King is always going to be pretty pulpy.

Re: Stephen King - The Dark Tower series.

Absolutely loved this series. Read the first two books years ago, took me ages to get past the first few pages of the third book, but got into it this year and read the lot. Wizard and Glass was probably my favourite, burnt the tops of my thighs by the pool in Cuba this summer because of it: got so into the story, through the last 150 pages or so I forgot about both re-applying sunscreen and getting the fuck out of the early afternoon sun.

Was all I could do not to start greeting by the pool by the end of it.

Brilliant books. Think Drawing of the Three was my favourite.
