| Fifty book challenge 2009 Thought I'd start this as I really want to make a much better attempt at it than I did last year.
1)Mr Vertigo - Paul Auster. Bit of a lazy re-read, but then it's been a while since I read it. One of my favourite easy reads.

2. Angela Carter - The Sadeian Woman: An Exercise in Cultural History
It's ridiculous that Mary Shelley was only 20 or 21 when she wrote Frankenstein. It's perfect. |

1) Andrew Hodges - One to Nine: The Inner Life Of Numbers
Readable inasmuch as it presents some interesting facts but the author appears to be a complete wank who wants you to fall to your knees in awe at just how clever he is. There's something really contrived and smart-arsey about his writing style.

I'm still only halfway through my second book of the year here, I think I've actually got slower at reading...

| Re: Fifty book challenge 2009 It's been a slow start to the year.
1. 'Bright Shiny Morning' by James Frey.
- I found this to be like a 12A version of a Brett Easton Ellis book. Reminded me a lot of Less Than Zero, but less cynical. A bit too disjointed for my liking, it's basically a bunch of short stories mixed in with random facts about LA, with the author jumping from storyline to storyline without any form of proper narrative. Some of the stories/characters I loved, some of them I didn't. I think it would work a lot better if he had just made a collection of short stories in a more conventional format.
