Criticism/theory and literary genre

A long shot maybe but I was wondering if any literature heads could recommend good books that look at genre conventions from a critical and/or theoretical perspective, particularly the autobiography, memoirs and the modern romance.

100% nae use reply here Mick, but the Guardian did a wee series on this a few months back. Every day a different supplement on a literary convention. If you know any Guardian readers who keep shit like this, might be worth asking them.

Re: Criticism/theory and literary genre

I'm about to go for a shower, but I'll pull out my Norton Anthology of Theory and Criticism later and have a look for anything relevant.

Off the top of my head, Jacques Derrida and Helene Cisoux both wrote essays on the autobiography so Googling them would be a good start. I'll see what else I can dig out.
