| Re: lovecraft This compilation is a pretty good introduction to Lovecraft: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/reader/01...pt#reader-page
Its got some pretty interesting and insightful commentaries/notes accompanying each story, which helps with some of the denser sections..
And yeah, the short stories are the best places to start - fairly quick flashes of weirdness that kinda linger in your thoughts like some half-remembered nightmare

Also, white test on black backing seems to help, along with finding a suitably clear font.
And if you're REALLY sneaky, you can hit the middle mouse button till it bring up the scrolly thing, move it down ever so slightly so the screen scrolls just enough that you never really have to mover your eyes away from the middle of the screen. Ultimate laziness. |

| Re: lovecraft Aparently, Lovecraft was a big fan of another of my favourite authors, M.R. James, to the extent that he ran a fanzine for said author. They share similar themes/plots, ie an academic investigates an artifact/ancient myth/ruins etc and comes a cropper. Although M.R. James allows his protagonists to live every now and again. |

| Re: lovecraft I love how much free-to-read stuff there is online from texts that are now public domain.
In an old job where I had fuck all to do I read the entire works of HG Wells.

| Re: lovecraft I'll be looking into his works as well I think. I've been meaning to for quite some time. It just seems so bloody big and complicated. Especially with there being so many books on offer.
