| Re: Err....Higher English anyone? I did the Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway. Not much character devlopment but you can write alot about the writing style of Hemingway.

| Re: Err....Higher English anyone? I did Dracula by Bram Stoker, starting off about how he was the dark shadow of humanity(Or somesuch bollocks) and ended up waffling about how he was in fact the Anti-Christian.
It went down well, I believe.
As for character development - one could look at how the human characters begin doubting Van Helsing and then go on to trust him completely and develop strategies to thwart his plans, whilst comparing that to Dracula who has no capacity for creative thinking unlike the humans.
As for character development, hm, a good example would be The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. Showing how you can literally see the changes to the main character himself.
Oh oh oh! Diary of a Drug Fiend by Aleister Crowley. I'd love to write an essay on that one. Fantastic.

| Re: Err....Higher English anyone? Do 'Life of Pi'. They will love you for it and complement your grade accordingly. Thank them, then get the fuck out of Uddingston. You will thank yourself for that one. |

| Re: Err....Higher English anyone? But the problem with that(Life of Pi) would be the fact that everyone'll be doing it. It's one of those ones that wins awards and everyone does. The markers hate them because they have to read hundreds of the things about the same damned book.
Which is why Diary of a Drug Fiend would be a good one; about three people doing higher have read it and only the mad Thelemites would write an essay about it.
But it's a good book nonetheless; it's got character development, it's got drugs, it's got romance, it's got the line "Foriegners tend to view the English as harmless madmen"(Or something).
And by Gum, you can extrapolate about the apparent mysticism of "Do what thou wilt" and how it starts off as being an eccentic greeting and turns into a hateful phrase and then into a meaningful exchange on how one should live one's life.
I got carried away there, didn't I?

| Re: Err....Higher English anyone? I did Terry Pratchetts Mort, because I had just finshed reading it, and couldnt be arsed rushing through another book.
Do Neil Gaimans Neverwhere. Nice and clear character development in that, and a genuinely great book.

| Re: Err....Higher English anyone? Yeah I did but not much about character development. I think it was on the 'not-reccomended' like because it's been so much.

| Re: Err....Higher English anyone? It doesn't really matter if you a do a popular book these days, as the marking is done internally (cheating ahoy!), so Life of Pi would be a good choice probably.
Do Spot The Dog, it's possible. |
