| Leonard Cohen What do you all make of him as a writer/poet?
Have you read either of his novels/ any of his poetry books?
I am curious. Muchly. I'm a fan, needless to say, was just interested to hear what others thought. |

| Re: Leonard Cohen He's pretty good when you're in the mood - same with general music I suppose.
An ex of mine really liked him, thats how I got into some of his songs...his insense sensual tone never really applied to me though so I probably missed alot.

Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed

Everybody knows the fight is fixed

That’s how it goes

He is pretty good, and I do really like him.
I think I plagued you with him, however, and for that I apologise. I'm avoiding third-person discussion today. I thought you'd maybe get into him, but the mighty Jim Morrison was always a fore-runner.
Not that the two are similar... musician/poet-ness aside, of course. |

| Re: Leonard Cohen soemtimes he feel like when we were kids and we would hold each other tightly by the arms round the chest to see if we would faint, and then everyone would dance around, and then we would wake up with a party of minds, you are amazing, you took us somewhere else sideways, i wish it was us, i always knew it was us. like a crucifix; it was full of wonder and sin.
anyway i'm tripping listening to him, i still think he was more a poet than a musicain because when i hear jeff buckley singing hallelujah and he sings leonard cohen's lyrics' about sex, when i went down there and moved in you and the holy dove moved too in you i think that is perfect lyrics because we are all shy of that style yet it makes so much sense

| Re: Leonard Cohen Bought "Beautiful Losers" in a charity shop a while back but haven't had the guts to crack it open yet. (Someone on Amazon compared it to Ulysses, which can't ever be good.) Love his lyrics but I reckon the music's part of what makes them so good. Still, I wouldn't mind a swatch at his literary stuff eventually. Same with Nick Cave.
I haven't listened to Cohen in yonks but couldn't get "The Future" outta my head when walking home this morning. Then I get in, come online, and this thread's been revived. Strange. |

I've had The Stranger Song stuck in my head for ages.
