Sarah is on fire tonight. Sooo true...good book, nice theory, made me go "eh, the catholic church is a bit shit then" but that's about it. Saw that programme about people who believed it was the gospel truth and travelled aroudn the world to find out if it was true. obbers all of them

I agree, the whole "Follow the Da Vinci Code round the world" thing that's revolving round it is the actual worst. I feel sorry for that wee Scottish place that's been getting loadsa unwanted tourism from it... apparently they just seem bemused.

Only seen Batman Returns then, aye?

Plus American Psycho, Shaft, The Machinist. Probably biased because I saw American Psycho first, but to my mind he's got a face you'd never tire of slapping.

1) Christian Bale is brilliant. The hype is well justified. In fact, I don't reckon he gets enough praise.

2) Dan Brown is a decent author. Maybe a little over-hyped, but he's by no means pish.

And 3) Dyno has suddenly gone up in my estimation.

I've been waiting for this...read the books by Baigent and Leigh years and it was obvious where Brown got his story from. He's even been filmed saying that his story is based on thier first book. Well he claims its based on a true story which if you only read B & L's first book you might take that from it but when you read thier follow up books they admit theyve been tricked by folk.

I'll be interested to see just how much cash they get if they win though...

i thought the da vinci code was an excellent book. a great story which had a few thought provoking questions, but not much more than that. angels & demons was better imo tho. i have read some of his other books which didn't feature robert langdon which were ok, but not as good.

he's still a pretty good author i reckon, and the fully illustrated versions of both da vinci code & angels & demons are excellent, not to mention the time they save doing google image searches for pictures of relevant artworks & buldings etc.

and you don't have to read that book to realise how shit the catholic church is. all you need to do is to go to a catholic school. that pretty done it for me

The only thing ive found with Dan Brown that stood out about his work was the topics rather than the quality of his writting.

I really enjoy reading about the subjects but he just cant write a book that holds my interest for longer than maybe 20-30 mins at a time. To me thats not the sign of a good author.

The whole point of the holy blood and the holy grail was thatthey were trying to prove it. It wasnt until the follow up books came out that you found out they were being tricked. It reads more like a mystery story of how they were tricked rather than about the holy bloodline of christ.

I personally dont believe anything both books said lol. But it was really quite interestin and did get me thinkin a bit - *AMATEUR MOMENT* I cant wait for the film of The Da Vinci Code

The one thing that gets me about this case is that The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail has been on bookshelves for quite literally decades and its never been that big a hit....well not on the scale of The Da Vinci Code or The Hiram Key at least. In fact it took me until about 6 years ago to find a copy in a bookshop after reading the originals from my local library back in the late 80's.

But now everywhere you go you get newly printed glossy versions of the book with it being punted as "Where Dan Brown got his story" in every bookshop. Their making cash off the back of the book already...why get greedy and sued the guy thats caused you to make money from a 23 year old book again?

I read The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail aaages ago, and it never stilulated my mind. It was soooo dull - I only actually bought the Da Vinci Code cos it would have been a good story and Dan Brown's a fantastic author

Fantastic is a big over exaggeration. I'd say he was on a par with Jackie Collins - holiday read as Sarah mentioned. Pity is that theres no sex in Dan Brown books (n)

Bridget Jones is the worst book I have ever read and Christian Bale makes me feel sick (Possibly because of the Machinist)
