Following on from previous successes, the Community Planning Partnership (CPP) will once again be running its Community Assembly in Tom Johnston House, Kirkintilloch. This year's event will be on Saturday 28th October 2006 from 9.30am until 1pm.
In previous years, the CPP has taken this opportunity to ask local people for their views about the issues that matter to them most such health, education, community safety and the environment.
However, this year, the CPP has taken on board many of the suggestions made by local people and drawn them together into a new Community Plan. The Plan will outline how all the public sector partners are joining up to improve services in East Dunbartonshire so that the public will benefit.
At the Community Assembly, Councillor Fiona Risk, Depute Leader of the Council, will formally launch the Plan. She said, "The Plan is based around five key themed partnerships and will tell local people exactly what is happening to improve health and wellbeing, create safer communities, protect the environment, enhance learning and enterprise opportunities and deliver for children and young people in East Dunbartonshire."
The new Community Planning website will also be launched at the Community Assembly with a live, interactive demonstration.
Valerie Stewart, the Council's Community Planning Co-ordinator, has organised the event with her team. She said, "This year, instead of attending one workshop, participants will be able to go to up to three different themed sessions and find out more about what these partnerships are delivering.
"We would be delighted to welcome you to Tom Johnston House on the day where refreshments and a buffet lunch will be on offer. Free transport and a crèche will also be available on request.
"To book your place, please call the Community Planning Team on 0141 578 8231. For more information, check out
