Clean Glasgow Campaign ‘zero tolerance enforcement teams’

Clean Glasgow Campaign ‘zero tolerance enforcement teams’

Glasgow City Council is launching zero tolerance enforcement teams in support of their Clean Glasgow campaign.

From Thursday 24 May, highly visible uniformed enforcement officers will patrol the city's streets targeting people and potentially businesses that break the law by littering, fly tipping, spraying graffiti, throwing chewing gum and cigarette ends on the street or allowing their dogs to foul pavements and parks.

The officers will punish offenders with on-the-spot £50 fixed penalty notices.

For more information on the Clean Glasgow campaign, visit www.glasgow.gov.uk

So, erm, aye. That’s today. Poor buggers’ll be wandering about in the rain in their shiny new uniforms.

Yeah, lets crack down on those litter louts, they should be our first priority.

Do you think anyone has warned them that stabproof vests don't prevent stabbings?

They did find in New York, didn't they, that addressing this kinda thing led to improvements further up the chain?

It's contentious, I know, but fuck it, let's throw up a wiki link and call it a debate

Completely aside from the idea that uniformity equalling harmony is a stupid idea in the first place, the Broken Window Theory has more holes in it than a tea bag, so lets not get too carried away.

Its tokenism to distract from the real problems, nothing more.

Picking at a small, relatively harmless problem to garner public support.

The only half-decent thing they've done for the streets of Glasgow in my lifetime has been the blue lighting in Buchanan st.

And I'm putting that down to fluke.

Glasgow’s street cleaners do a good job. Most positive contribution the Council makes to the city centre, in my opinion.

Just a shame that they don't send them to work outside of Sauchial/Buchanan/Argyll Streets as well.

They do cover pretty much all of the city centre, not just the three big shopping avenues. They just don’t travel beyond the centre.

Like a new P1 class.

I wonder what it must feel like to have the power to fine people £50 on the spot. At least traffic wardens can issue the ticket and then run away.
