| Re: Another Ivory Blacks Gig, December 16th We heard a lot of horror stories about the sound, but to be honest the sound was pretty good. Really enjoyed playing there.

| Re: Another Ivory Blacks Gig, December 16th Kelv has taken over Strawberry Fields, got in a new PA and a new sound guy, and I swear to God it is absolutely brand fucking new now. Still looks the exact same as it has since it was Strawberry Fields, but soundwise it's pretty much as perfect as you could want from such a venue, as long as you have a reasonable idea of what to do with your instruments. I'm seriously impressed with how good the sound was when we played there the other week.
I THINK local gigs there might not be pay-to-play any more, either, based on some MySpace bulletins sent out the other day saying as much? I may be totally misreading that, though, maybe that was only specific last-minute shows or something. Obviously the members of Loose Lips can give better insight into that. Quote:

Not so early that no-one has bothered to turn up for the bands who sold like 10 tickets between them yet, and not so late that the crowd there for the band that have sold 80-odd tickets have all jumped on the last train home. |

| Re: Another Ivory Blacks Gig, December 16th Yeah I see your point, rach was saying that actually.
As for being non pay to play, it depends what youd efine as pay to play. For the 14+ shows we are doing you have to give them £150 from the first 30 tickets you sell, with 30 being the minimum requirment. For the 18+ gigs there is no minimum requirement and you get £2 from every ticket sold, and a free crate of beer if you sell over 30.
Thats what Kelv told me the other day anyway.
But last time we played we eneded up being last on, which was goo then i suppose cause it was our first proper gig.
As long as we sell 30 for this one I will be happy.

| Re: Another Ivory Blacks Gig, December 16th Ahh right, so it's just 18+ gigs that are non pay-to-play? That's a step in the right direction, I suppose! Yer probably still better off with the 14+ pay-to-play system, though, from my point of view.
Alright, so "it's pure corporate money-robbing bullshit" and "the money's going to all the wrong people who don't deserve it", etc., but these 14+ local shows will probably land you on a bill with some random ass band of teenagers who bring their ten million friends with them for you to work your magic over.
It's a bit gay that bands probably don't benefit as much as they should with the pay-to-play system, but if you have enough friends to comfortably afford each gig then there are advantages in trying to work with it for a while anyway. |

| Re: Another Ivory Blacks Gig, December 16th yeah thats pretty much my feelings on it right now, but they do serve a purpose. If I didn't think we could sell the minimum requirement then i wouldn't agree to do the gig. And when you have people broght by the teeny band turning round and saying you were better than the band they came to see, it's always a plus thing

Also, i want to be on 3rd or 4th but it depends, because we're that bit older Kelvins more likely to put us on later so our friends drain the bar.
Had quite a lot of folk stay last time because we got along quite well with the other bands and a few of them stayed with their mates. Seems to be the way forward.
