I do actually have a theory. Penny's dad bought the Hanso diary, which may have details on the island. Penny's dad was the one who sent Desmond on the sailing trip if I remember rightly. After he disapeared, maybe Penny's dad told her about the island... | But why would she assume he was on the island? She told him never to see her again. Maybe he was respecting her wishes. Something must have made her want to find him and something must have connected him with the island. |

I thought she had found out that her dad forced him to leave her? |

Before Desmond went missing on the island in the bad weather Henry had managed to transmit his co-ordinates and a message about electromagnetism. Penny had then got the message and set up that listening station with the two guys to watch for the electromagnetic anomaly.
It sort of fits since Henry gale arrived on the island on a balloon sponsored or made by Widmore Corporation (Penny's Dad's company) and a company called Minnesota Metallurgy & Mining Co. (We'll ignore Mr. Cluck's Chicken Shack!).
Random bit of nonsense that Lost just loves to bring up: Quote: |
In Homer's Odyssey, Penelope was the faithful wife of Odysseus. She waited for him for twenty years while he was lost at sea and thought by many to be dead, resisting the advances of 108 suitors who tried to marry her. Because of this, she is often used as a symbol of marital fidelity.
| Hell, they even got the 108 in there! |

| Re: Season 4: Episode 5. Just, over the last 2 weeks, watched seasons 1, 2, 3 and the first five eps of 4.
Finally I am into it.
That was an amazing episode right there. Possible idea in my head right now of Pennys dad possibly finding out bout island from book, or perhaps already knows etc, and his round the world race he was sponsoring was perhaps some way of finding it, hoping that one of the racers would stumple across it.
Very interesting the note of time difference from the island and "reality"

American TV just do what it usually does and cancel the show without an ending hah.. |

This time distortion really intrigued me. I may be remembering incorrectly, but I think Jack or someone said the chopper ride to the boat should have only taken about 20 minutes? And they hadn't heard from Sayid in a day and a half? If I'm mistaken, the following math is totally wrong, but follow me on this.
A day and a half is 36 hours. Multiply that by 60 and you get 2160 minutes. That makes the distortion ratio 20/2160, or 1/108, meaning for every minute passing outside the island, 108 minutes pass on the island. 108 just happens to be the sum of the numbers (4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42) and the interval that said numbers had to be entered in the hatch.
