Tonight's episode:
When Jack's health is seriously compromised, Kate and Juliet must learn to work together in order to save him; and something goes wrong as Sawyer, Claire, Aaron and Miles continue their trek away from Locke's camp and back to the beach. Previously on Lost...: At the beach camp, Jack isn't feeling too well and pops a few pills. A body is pulled out of the water and Daniel identifies it as the freighter's doctor. Their satellite phone is broken, but Daniel eventually fixes it enough to send morse code about the doc. He receives a reply that a helo is coming in the morning, but Bernard tells everyone the response actually says the doc is fine. Daniel says they were never going to rescue the survivors. At the barracks, Keamy's mercenaries assault the camp, killing three Oceanic survivors and nearly killing Claire. Keamy orders Ben to surrender himself, but Ben refuses. Keamy brings out Alex and threatens to execute her, but Ben refuses to give himself up and tries to persuade Keamy that Alex isn't actually his daughter but a pawn and means nothing to him. Alex is executed by Keamy, shocking Ben who says the rules have been changed. He goes into a secret room within his secret room and, after coming back out, the smoke monster rushes past the house and attacks the mercenaries. This gives time for the survivors to escape and for Ben to say goodbye to his daughter. Sawyer decides he's had enough and heads back to the beach camp with Claire, Aaron and Miles. Locke and Ben force Hurley to accompany them as he's needed to find Jacob's cabin. Meanwhile,
IN THE FUTURE!, Ben appears seemingly out of thin air in the middle of the Sahara Desert in a parka bearing a DHARMA logo. He makes his way to Iraq where Sayid is burying his wife Nadia, who was tragically killed in an "accident" back in Los Angeles. Ben reveals to Sayid that his wife was murdered by an associate of Charles Widmore, and the two work together to kill the man as he followed Sayid to Iraq. As his meaning to live was stolen from him, Sayid decides that Ben's war is now his and wants to work with him. Ben travels to London and confronts Widmore in his penthouse suite. Ben cannot kill Widmore, for reasons unknown, but has decided to make Widmore suffer like he has. He's going to kill Widmore's daughter, Penelope, and make Widmore wish he hadn't changed the rules. Widmore claims Ben will never find Penelope, and that the island is his and always has been. Ben tells Widmore he'll never find the island.

How Ben appeared in the desert is an excellent question which will be answered over the course of the show. Lindelof points out that Ben was covered in some sort of soot after he reappeared from the secret room within his secret room. Cuse says it's fair to assume Ben summoned the monster, but there are consequences in doing so that even Ben doesn't have control over; Ben telling Locke that he doesn't know what the monster is may not have been a complete lie. The scene with Ben and Widmore in London was actually shot in London. There may be a larger force governing the rules between Ben and Widmore. Harper approaching Juliet in "The Other Woman" really was Harper.
