| Re: AN Chess Tournament Here Addy, if we're going to have an online thing or a chess meet-up, can use suggest any sites/places for it?
I don't know about other folks, but for all intents and purpose, I don't have a board (since it's made out of stone, weights a ton and isn't really trasportable). |

I would prefer a pub meet up, but I don't know anywhere that has more then one board. |

Rule number one of chess - play the board not the player. If I let myself be intimidated by the players who have ratings 6/700 points above mine I'd never have beaten them. But because I played opening lines that I knew well and that they didn't I was able to win. Board - not player.

i won my secondary school chess tourney in 1st year by trying my best to freak people out and farting really horrible silent ones all day. it worked a treat. i dont know if my bowel control is up to scratch now however. i'm a little out of practice |

I can't imagine a cheappy board will cost more than a couple of pints would.
edit: a quick google tells me you can get wooden chess sets in woolies for £7, but there must be cheaper out there.
