| Glasgow Skeptics in the pub. - Drum and Monkey, 10th November Dunno if this will interest anyone but on the off chance...
Skeptics in the pub Glasgows first event is coming up:
Alex Pryce - Skepticism & Psychic Frauds 10th Novemeber Quote: |
Alex Pryce, founder of Edinburgh Skeptics, will be giving an introduction to skepticism, its origins, why it is necessary, investigations into the supernatural and the Skeptics in the Pub movement. He will then go on to give a sample of his upcoming talk "Psychic Frauds" which will take place in January in Edinburgh. Warning to those on the front row- there will be blood.
| Alex is a good bloke, used to do ghost tours over here in Edinburgh and has done investigations with Richard Wiseman, Caroline Watt and IIRC the bloke who wrote ghostwatch. I've seen some of the talk he's likely to give and it's reasonably entertaining. There might even be some psychic surgery!
I suspect a bigger draw will be the following event however:
Ariane Sherine 17th December Quote: |
Journalist and comedy writer Ariane Sherine will talk about creating the global Atheist Bus Campaign, now running in twelve countries across the world, and how it started with just 700 words on The Guardian’s website. She’ll also talk about editing the new charity book The Atheist’s Guide To Christmas, which features 42 of the world’s most entertaining atheists, including Richard Dawkins, Charlie Brooker and Derren Brown.
| Although that's perhaps more atheism orientated then skepticism it's a fairly high profile speaker for them to get on their second outing!
Full details of the Glasgow SiTP group can be found here.
They also have a page on the SiTP site here |

| Re: Glasgow Skeptics in the pub. - Drum and Monkey, 10th November Edinburgh has Richard Wiseman, Dr. Ciaran O'Keefe, Professor David Colquhoun and Andy Lewis (of the quackometer) coming up over the next year.
We also have someone coming to do a talk on cryptozoology (which should be interesting) Dr. Charles Paxton apparently.
If that appeals to anyone? |

| Re: Glasgow Skeptics in the pub. - Drum and Monkey, 10th November I think a few Edinburgh Skeptics will be along. There will probably be some form of donation at the door to cover expensesbut I dunno how much (no more then the cost of a pint) |

| Re: Glasgow Skeptics in the pub. - Drum and Monkey, 10th November It's nice to know that there exist languages in the world which have words which succesfully encompass my worldview.
Ones which I am far too lazy and disaffected to learn, but nonetheless, it is still reassuring to know that they are there. |
