If he'd chased him down in the street and killed him, yes.

In his own home, faced by an intruder, who he didnt know was a 'just a burglar' and didnt know if he was armed or not, then to me, thats a different story.

Re: Student tazed for not having ID

Slight difference between someone resisting arrest when he's already been warned a couple of times by the police and threatened with the use of the tazer and some farmer shooting someone in the back, no?

He was climbing out of a window, trying frantically to escape and catch his mates who had already ran for their lives because the farmer had shown up with a gun and he was terrified.
Now, whether or not he should have been there in the first place doesn't make shooting him in the back as he tries to retreat from you a reasonable thing to do.
I don't agree that it should have been a murder charge but the manslaughter verdict which was served? Definitely. Without a doubt.

That's the point. The conversation is now about what constitutes reasonable force.

I get that, but the guy was tazered because he resisted arrest and ignored warnings and requests to leave. How we then get to reasonable force re: farmer Giles and his blunderbuss is a bit of a mystery is all.

It's a few posts back.
Al (I think), asked what constitutes reasonable force, Endless_psych said it depended on the situation. I agreed and gave two examples, one ending in acquittal, one in conviction. The latter was the Tony Martin case. Al said he agrees with Tony Martin's actions. Cue conversation topic shift to Tony 'quick-draw' Martin.

Ah, endless psych made the jump to reasonable force, didn't see that.

My bad.
