I've passed a link to this lot onto another couple of bands who could use the info. This is a great resource |

| Re: Scottish Venue + Promoter contacts That'd be good cheers. I get a lot of email from bands asking for help on various things and since I have very limited net access, I never have time to help everybody or write as much as I'd like to. So it'd be handy to have info here so that folk can check that first. For the record, we book tours with an independent agent and do press with an independent pr company. The info I've posted is specifically aimed at new-ish bands who will have to fight hard to book their own tours and can't afford to use pr companies, therefore heavily relying on zines.
It's worth pointing out here that nobody at labels like DESOTO post records themselves to say, Kerrang (as far as I know). They have independent PR companies that do that for them. Desoto record sleeves usually mention who they use in the States for example. I ran into a ziner once who said we must be wannabe corporate rock whores if we use pr. Dumb fuck! If you're trying to be hardcore (we're not but follow me here) at least know how underground labels operate. If nobody knows you have a new record out it's going to be extremely difficult to cover your costs - let alone put out another one!!! So excuse me and my wannabe corporate rock ass while I sleep in a transit for weeks around the uk playing to handfuls of people trying to lose less money than we did on our last tour hoping to simply sell enough records to pay off our never ending mountain of band related debts.
*phew*
i needed that

| Re: Scottish Venue + Promoter contacts Yeah.
Alternative Nation - ie, this whole forum at large - grew up out of an unofficial Cathouse (a night club in Glasgow) message board where punters would make pre-club pub plans, etc.
Now we try and cover pretty much everything, from film-making to technical computer chat, covering the whole alternative music scene and venues in between.
Most of our users are from in and around Glasgow still but we're building up a decent amount from other parts of Scotland (Aberdeen and Dundee notably), and we're planning to try and expand into England at some point in the relatively near future.
And obviously we offer free forums to bands, an offer taken up by the fine gents of MTS, which is how you find yourself here today.

| Re: Scottish Venue + Promoter contacts yeah, we have the exact same kinda thing down here for all of west yorkshire ish areas. i.e. leeds, bradford and other surrounding areas. the forum site we (ridgevex) are on is called www.noseboard.net. the server is down at the mo, and its coming back as www.cyphermusic.net maybe when its all sorted you could combine. we get killer shows through noseboard. the last one there was like 200 people there! do you guys organise alot of regular gigs and are you all from bands as well? |

| Re: Scottish Venue + Promoter contacts Well we've just started a promotions part of the site to run regular gig's in and around Glasgow. Magazine also being worked on and going to get alot of content added to it over the next few weeks plus ways for people to submit info for it. Personally I'm not in a band...spend far to much time on the computer but I'm rather active in the scene trying to help everyone out. The whole idea behind this place is to try and help the local music scene any way we can and are looking at alot of different ways of doing.
I'd like the idea of hooking up with other forum/mags to grow the site maybe bring them on board and working with them anyway we can.
