New split 7" single with The A Forest: the details

Featuring new MTS track "Get Ready For The Trench Run", the record is out Monday Aug 16th on the Too Many Fireworks label (Cat. No. 2MF005) x 500 copies. You can order it from the label's online shop at Simbiotic

So far it's featured on likes of BBC Radio1 (thanks Vic Galloway!), BBC 6 Music, XFM's Rock show (thanks Ian Camfield!), Beat106FM (thanks Jim Gellatly!). If you want Zane Lowe to play it try emailing zane@bbc.co.uk and request it if that sort of thing twists your biscuit.

The A Forest's track appears to be dividing opinion quicker than a debate on which is the best flavour of crisps! I expected as much and I guess if you dont like bands such as The Zephrys or The Sundowns then it won't be your cup of tea. At a recent Glasgow gig the A Forest were described as "Like Low and Yo La Tengo having sex and giving birth to Broadcast" which will give you some kinda idea what to expect.


Trench Run video

This is now onsite and you can download it and ch-ch-check it out. It's in the vein of the Million Dead / Jetplane Landing low budget stylee efforts. Considering MTV's recent reality band show featured bands such as The Toyko Dragons and The Holiday Plan making well dodgy "low budget videos for only £10,000" then by all comparisons ours is actually alright which - considering we had a budget of 50p - is testament to Tim's ability and patience. Thanks Tim! If MTV ever give us £10,000 then we'll know who to call. Although if there's a pub nearby we may never get as far as yours...

At the moment all we know is that the MTV2 & Scuzz channels liked it and have agreed to play it. When, where or how we know not yet. Rest assured that if it involves some kind of voting/request type actions then we'll post the necessary [rigging] info here. If we get enough people to do this it will make all the difference and would undoubtedly help us book more shows for the next tour. I'm in two minds about whether or not we should do another single + video to coincide with the album's release (given our financial restraints) so it's really up to you. If enough people express an interest and help push this video whatever bit we can then we'll certainly see what we can do next time around. I have just seen the video and its a great peice of work. So glad MTV2 and Scuzz are playing it, MTS are finally getting what they deserve. Congratulations too go to Locus of Control who's video is also playing on Scuzz now I believe. Hope you get to tour again soon.

hi res one seemed to mess up my pc for some reason, as of tomorrow i'll be firing off requests re: the video and the song to be gettin some airplay, just doing my bit...

still lovin caffeine avalanche, my bird (who hates anything not in the top ten) reckoned it was some famous band, please dont let that song fall into obscurity, the world must hear it!

I'll double check the hi res version shortly and see if there's any probs but as far as I knew it was all hunky dory. As soon as we get more info on requesting the video I'll post it onsite. We're already brainstorming for ideas as to how to make another one with an equally microscopic budget. If anyone has any suggestions let us know.

Yeah, Caffeine Avalanche seems to be one of our most requested songs. If we wrote a whole record like that we'd be rich I like interesting pop songs if they're done well. "Chocolate" by Snow Patrol, no not the Kylie one, is one of my fave songs...although it could be just that I like singing along with the line "this is the straw, final straw this time" ha ha!

On our new record there's a song called "Decided by a photo-finish" which I reckon is up there with Caffeine. I re-wrote it a couple of times until I got a killer chorus which was just crying out loud for some cellos etc. It may end up sounding a bit like the Super Furries if we're not careful! I wanted it to have the same mini-epic kinda feel and its probably the most pop track on the album - and as a result its gonna be a bugger to figure out where to place it in the tracklisting. Our friend alex heard an early demo of it and said it was in the vein of Mansun's 90s hit "Wide Open Space" which cant be a bad thing cos that was a dead good tune. MTS writing hits? Ah, the sell-out begins today then, heh. Next thing you know we're writing jingles for pepsi and doing walk-on cameos in I, Robot 2: the product placement continues....

nah its cool bout the hi res version, 99% positive its my computer, low res is good quality anyway so doesnt matter too much to me. Video's good, likin it who's the funky chick? always helps to have a funky chick a video...

i know what you mean about chocolate, didnt quite get the buzz about run, i think its a pretty mediocre song, and was a bit let down considering i was excited about the prospect of a dundee (or originating from... blah blah) band getting big, but chocolate is a class, unashamed pop song, still makes it onto most of my dodgy compilations i make to keep her awake at nights (i aint wearin no frickin earphones biatch)...

every song i write tends to be too catchy, im beyond sell out, i think the word im looking for is pish... must develop real feelings, and interesting lyrics!

Yup, completely agree with you. Chocolate is much more like a track you may have heard on their 2nd record and is far, far better than Run which is pants. Still, if they end up selling half a million cos of its re-release I'm sure they wont complain!
