| Re: Reality TV: shouldn't it be dead by now? Anyone who has to interact with other people at work, home or socially will have to do all of what the Guardian guy says everytime they meet with other people, so he's really just wanking it up to fill newspaper space.
I dont think its public demand which drives these things, i've never been asked what i want to watch by television bosses.
Its much easier for tv bosses to pick something with the lowest common denominator and then market the fuck out of it. There are enough sheep out there to lap it up everytime someone says ''hey you guys, you should be into <insert latest fashion/trend/fad/excuse for shit here>''.
" oh wow thanks man, I'm really interested in that now, what was it again? ... cool. how much is it again?. i'll use my credit card"
They wait to be told, and the good (ie gets results, not has a soul) marketing person of course tells the public how they made that decision to do what they were told to, and what a jolly good decision it was.
If you or I really had a say in what we were sold then all the marketing men in the world would be starving to death and have to eat their own heads.
This happens in music, film, tv, politics, everything - lowest common denominator bullshit for compliant idiots.
TVs usually crap anyway. Its what you do when you dont have anything else to do isn't it?
So why don't you turn off you TV and do somethng more interesting instead. |
