| That doesn't count, man... anything off the first five or six Sabbath albums can be classed as some of the greatest riffs of all time. I personally love just about every riff off 'Vol. 4', probably doesn't have the best-known Sabbath tunes (apart from maybe Supernaut), but even 30 years on it still sounds heavy as fuck.
I'm a riffaholic, so I'll add to this list as they come to me...
For now... let's say the opening riff and the whole instrumental ending to the Wildhearts 'Love U Til I Don't'... the kind of ending to an album that just makes you want to press play and start again...
The riff to 'Bad Devil' by Devin Townsend... that's another favourite. Sounds very CoC... |

| The riff to the heavy bit in Bohemian Rhapsody... yeah!
And on the subject of Queen... 'Keep Yourself Alive', 'Tie Your Mother Down', 'White Man', 'Sweet Lady', 'Doin' All Right', 'It's Late'... and about a million more... not a lot of people know this but in the 70's Queen had some of the best riffs there ever has been. Shame Brian May's a sad old fuck now... |

| Thank God I'm right by Antiproduct. The wee bit after the big long intro and the wee buildup bit. |

| Yeah, Sabbath have too many riffs to mention, but if I had to pick three it'd be the one above, 'Wheels of Confusion' and 'Sabbra Cadabra'. And 'Supernaut'. And 'N.I.B'. Damn.
'Arms Around the World' by AntiProduct and 'Not Bitter, Just a Little Disappointed' by Ginger share a riff, and it might be the best riff ever.
My favourite Wildhearts riffs are the two main ones in 'Caprice'.
That song is just a tower of sheer fucking rock, especially live, where it gets downright hypnotic at the end. Other than that, you gotta love some of CJ's stuff in 'OCD'. Oh, and 'Looking For the One'. And the stuff at the end of 'News of the World'. And a million others.
A riff that's stuck in my head at the moment is 'Unbeliever' by Therapy?
Queen-wise, I love 'Stone Cold Crazy'. That song pretty much invented thrash metal, and still sounds ace today.
Cheap Trick have a few ace riffs too... 'You're All Talk' is still ripped off occasionally by the Hellacopters and Turbonegro and the like, the riff at the end of 'You Let a Lotta People Down' is pretty much the best riff the Wildhearts never wrote, 'Everything Will Work Out if You Let It' and 'On Top of the World' are damn cool, and 'Gonna Raise Hell' is probably the most evil riff ever. God I love Cheap Trick.

| Ahhhh riffs...
'Now I wanna sniff some glue'- The Ramones. That fantastic riff that sounds like the Hellacopters or some shit. Love it!
'Big Eyes' - Cheap Trick. What more can I say eh eh eh?!
And all the obvious Wildhearts ones.
I'll come up with more later...can I add 'Said and Done' to it? Fucking love it!

Jen reminded me of this by playing it in the car earlier, but 'Gimme Back My Brain' by Therapy? has the sort of riff you're convinced has been around for years, because it's so obvious, and so good.
'Muffin Man' by Frank Zappa.
Rocket from the Crypt have shitloads of good riffs, I don't even know which to suggest, they have so many of them.
'Army of Me' by Bjork, as covered by Helmet, is the coolest bass riff ever.

But then i thought Ahhhh Music

Painted Black - Rolling Stones
Aerosmith - Jaded
Elastica - Connected

| A riff is a repeated series of notes. Think of 'Smoke on the Water'. The 'DURR DURR DURR' bit? That's the riff.
In 'Paint It Black' the riff would be the sitar part.
But 'Where is my Mind' doesn't really have a riff, just a chord sequence.

| Ahh thanks
I was more thinking of the Where is my Mind Remix done by Weezer, but there is not much of a riff there either.
but the riff in painted black is the main reason i like that song so
that be my Choice
I force people to hear that song, coz it is one of my Favourites |

| The best Pixies riff is 'Velouria'. That's an ace riff that sounds like nothing else in rock.
