| A Scanner Darkly I actually quite liked Minority Report. It managed to retain the spirit of the story on which it was based while compromising enough to maintain its blockbuster action movie footing. Blade Runner is one of the greatest films of all time, and if you don't agree you may as well just stop reading and carry on with eating Lego or whatever it is you do with your time. It's based loosely on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, but discards many of the story's more metaphysical aspects. Paycheck. Well. I've never seen Paycheck because prolonged exposure to Ben Affleck brings me out in a fury, but I'm reliably informed that it's fairly divergent from the original. Total Recall is hugely enjoyable, but aside from sharing a central idea it's pretty far removed from We Can Remember it for You Wholesale. Never before, to my knowledge, has any Philip K. Dick adaptation come anywhere close to being as faithful to the source...

| Re: A Scanner Darkly Despite the fact that drug use was prevalent in the film, I didn't actually feel it encouraged drug use at any point. The idiots outside the cinema talking about the movie on the other hand, made me want to go home and dislocate my psyche from this plane of reality as quickly as possible.
(in a whiny ned voice) Ah didn't get it. If you're no gonnae make films simple, why bother?
(upper middle-class whore voice) It was just trying to be cleverer than it was, Snakes On a Plane was much more fun.
(poncy art-student voice(directed to female listening in totally fake rapt attention) Well, you see, Dick was obviously referencing the films of Cronenberg with the giant insects to add a touch of horror to the story. Retarded! YOU'RE ALL RETARDED! |

Why I don't go to the cinema except when I do, at anti social times to cinemas in the middle of nowhere |

If I were rich, or indeed ever happen to be, I would hire you to go places and talk about it.

Don't fail me!

| Re: A Scanner Darkly Elaine has a really irritating habit of nipping to the toilet after every movie we go to. This ostensibly means that I get to listen to an average of 5-10 minutes audience feedback every time I go to the cinema.
It hurts every time. |
