For years I’d heard a lot about how George Sluizer’s Spoorloos (The Vanishing) was a classic horror film. Everything I’d heard about it—from its telling of a story through its characters, its sense of forboding, the way it played on your own personal fears—coloured me intrigued. I finally saw it two days ago and enjoyed it, no doubt, but it didn’t strike me as this classic horror film I’d been expecting. El Orfanato (The Orphanage) delivers in spades.

As i say, it's pure pretentiousness. You don't see folk insisting on calling Die Hard 4 'Live Free Or Die Hard' just because that's its US title.

I think it generally comes down to laziness,ie whichever one has less syllables.

I didnt recognise it at first though - it's widely advertised as the orphanage.

I enjoyed it (uneasy bladder {don't worry, lambs, it held} aside).

Critic or student, I don't know, but an amazing mind, sitting behind me, was helpfully opining on the relative prudence of the characters' actions; was able to predict unpleasant or suprising moments, by interpreting clues from music, expressions etc. the audience, without insider knowledge, was oblivious to. Was proven right almost immediately thereafter more than once.

There's nothing in the film you CAN'T see coming tho'. That's why it's so fucking good.

Alternatively, my explanation still works if the person had simply already seen it in the pictures, but kept this info to themselves in order to appear knowledgeable.

There's sites like vcdquality that keep track of all the pirate releases out.
