| Freddy vs. Jason I apologise in advance for this review sounding fan boyish in any way but you have to understand I have been collecting slasher movies from the age of 13 (as my video and DVD collections will contest) and Jason just happens to be my number one favourite slasher of them all with Michael Myers running a close second. So sit back, relax, turn off all the lights and read as I go on and on about how wonderful this movie is.
This movie sucks! On so many levels this movie could have saved the slasher flicks from another decade a tedious B movie status, but alas it was not to be. Freddy and Jason fans have been waiting for a movie like this for years and it’s a shame to see such a chance wasted.
A rather standard script complete with obligatory shower scene, the old “if you have sex / do drugs / drink alcohol you will die” motif doesn’t help matters much and the characterisation, if you can call it that, of most of the players is standard teen cinema nonsense. There’s even a shameless Jay and Silent Bob rip-off for crying out loud (if you’ve never heard of them go buy or rent a copy of Dogma). How desperate do people have to be to sink to this level? In three words, American Teen Market! Also, given the number of pairs of gravity defying breasts (Monica Keena’s character is a prim example) in this movie and the more than the odd nude shot it’s pretty clear what demographic the film makers were targeting from the word go… American Teen Market!
Another bugbear is the casting of Ken Kersinger as Jason Voorhees, which had franchise fans and Jason freaks reaching for machetes as their beloved Kane Hodder was ousted from the Jason throne. Reports were that Kersinger was hired as his eyes were more soulful, but popular belief stand that Mr Hodder was getting a bit flabby round the edges and would have made Jason look like a Telly Tubby in a hockey mask. Robert Englund as Freddy is, as you would expect by now, a string of tasteless one-liners interspersed with some good old mindless violence dished out by his trusty glove.
So what’s the movie about? Freddy, trapped in hell, comes across Jason Voorhees also trapped in hell and by some dark evil shenanigans manages to free Jason and lets him loose to kill in Freddy’s name and hopefully make people remember Freddy so he can come back into our world. As most plans in movies do this one goes a bit wrong as Jason starts to slaughter his way through the teen populous not leaving our Freddy many victims to mentally torture and kill. This lines it all up for Jason and Freddy going toe to toe with some bloody results.
And even through all this I still managed to love this movie, why? It’s Jason! It’s Freddy! It’s the Jason and Freddy show! After waiting so long for this to hit the cinema I was willing to forgive a hell of a lot just to see these two kicking the living crap out of each other and I got what I wanted not only that but the added bonus of Jason and Freddy slicing and dicing a large portion of the American Teen Market generation in the shape of the annoying cast. Blood and gore a go-go, nice body count, nice bodies and the icing on the cake… a copout ending. What more could I want? Well a squeal would be nice! Or failing that jump on over to www.halloweenmovies.com and vote in the Michael Myers vs. Pinhead poll, I kid you not! | | | |

Im pretty shit at doing the whole long sentences thing , never mind putting sentences together
Im right into my slasher films - everyone knows this
Im right into my hellraiser , nightmare on elm street , pumpkinhead , bruce campbell , halloween , my zombie movies , all that shit ,
I thought the film was great.
I went to see it 6 times in the space of a week and a half and personally I think its up there with the 1st nightmare on elm street. I think it answered a few questions as well that brewed in peoples heads regarding the camp workers n shit like that and what actually went down , but i think they couldve made freddy kill more people exept just like 1 or 2 people , and they made jason show emotion , which was weird , but it worked also in places.
I guess youve just got to have an aquired taste for the film or even what you were expecting from the film kinda depended on what your reaction was gonna be like , and personally i thought it was great..
I noticed a few movie mistakes like jason with his fire goggles on , freddy still having both arms when he was blown into crystal lake , the stunt trousers when they landed on crystal lake , wee petty shite like that , but i still thought that it was overall a fucking brilliant film , and i also think that no matter what kinda film that gets made now , its always gonna get classed as an american teen horror movie..
Cant wait for "Halloween 9" "Twilight of the dead" "Bubba Hotep" "Phantasm V" and "House of the dead (oct 10)"
Wrong turn , however...THAT was class
but aye.
peace. |

| Re: Freddy vs. Jason I'm with Sinister on this one.
The only aspect of the movie that I liked was Freddy's wisecracking. They should probably have gone in more of a tongue-in-cheek direction akin to the director's previous 'Bride of Chucky', because 'FvJ' sure as hell didn't work as a horror movie.

| Re: Freddy vs. Jason Aye true, Freddy's bitchy comments were a laugh. But I still think it was no bad for a recent horror movie, could've been alot worse. |

Which is why i think folk are raving about pish like FvJ and House of 1000 corpses, cause they're amazed to see any horror flick at all and maybe haven't seen many of the best/older ones.
It's like some kid coming out the Rancid gig last week and raving about how good "The fight" were.... fair enough if you like them then fine, i can't argue with that, but get a bit of perspective and you'll see there are so many better things out there that you don't have to waste your time with the bottom 20%. |

| Re: Freddy vs. Jason Aye good, I've got more sense than to compare it to a classic horror. And yes, it's horrible when that happens, isnt it. |
