| House of 1000 Corpses It's 1977. Two couples are out on the night before Halloween, compiling information for a book they are writing on roadside attractions. They stop for gas at a place called Captain Spaulding's Museum of Monsters and Madmen, which is run by a man in a clown suit named...Captain Spaulding funnily enough. While they are chatting he informs them of his world famous Murder Ride which the boys promptly buy tickets for. 'This ride is a fun trip through psychopath lane, depicting scenes from famous mass murderers evil-doings. The last one deals with the local mystery of Dr. Satan. This man performed some unethical experiments in the local Mental Institute and was later hanged by the townsfolk but the next day his body was gone. Captain Spaulding informs the two couples that this hanging tree is located "not a few hundred feet from where your asses presently sit". Well one of the guys decides they have to see this murder tree and ends up convincing all the others to embark on this little "harmless" trip. After they get Captain Spaulding to unwillingly scribble down a map to this mysterious tree they set out in hope to solve the mystery. En route they spot a hitchhiker who the guys seem eager to pick up. "It's raining" they say...the fact that she has thighs that could crush a watermelon has nothing to do with it of course. Well the complimentry flat-tire occurs and guess what? They forget to pack a spare. No fear as the hitchhikers brother has a towtruck and her house is just a couple of yards up the road. One of the guys follows her to her lovely house, which by the way...is the house which the movie is named after, and the fun begins. Rob Zombie is casting the dark black shadow of real horror back over cinema. Forget your Scream-a-like's now, horror is back in a big way. Pulling influences from all over the place Zombie has made a Horror Frankenstein with the head of Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killer's and the hulking body of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. If you have ever seen a Rob Zombie music-video (if you haven't then seriously...kill yourself) then you will recognise Zombie's use of colour in this movie. The colours issue an enormous influence on the whole project and grab the viewer by the throat to force them to view a beautiful kaleidoscope of horrible tortures, brutal beatings and sick rituals, all seen through blood-red tinted glasses of course. This film shows where Rob Zombie has got his experience from and it is just a refreshing sight to see. He has stamped his name all over this thing and I love it. If you are a Horror fan then you have more than likely heard about this film and have been waiting a few year's to feast your eye's upon it. During that time I can understand that your expectations have grown unbelievably high and all I have to say to you is this. Don't let your expectations get the better of you. Go in with an open mind and come out with a joy in your heart that no teen-slasher could ever give you. If this is your first time hearing about this film do the right thing. Go to your cinema and bask in the glory that is House of 1000 Corpses. | | | |

| Re: House of 1000 Corpses Yeah, i thought the movie was awful. If that's the future of horror then it's better if it dies now. |

| I thought it was pretty enjoyable. Pretty different from the usual crap and it at least had interesting characters.
The opening-scene made it for me. |

| Re: Re: Re: House of 1000 Corpses I've got high hopes for Cabin fever when it comes out later this month. Also Identity was excellent. The Ring remake was pretty damn good too. And going back a bit further Blair Witch Project was one of the best horror movies i've ever seen. |

| I am pretty surprised other people don't like it. All I have seen so far from people about this movie is how much they thought it sucked. I downloaded it ages ago just when it got released in America and loved it. I consider myself a reasonably good horror fan....I just don't get what people don't like about it.
I enjoyed it more than TCM and I love that movie. |

| Re: House of 1000 Corpses Finally saw it tonight, despite having it d/l'd since May.
It was fun, and I enjoyed it, but it was certainly nothing classic, and it only really worked if you bore in mind that it was utter trash you were watching.

| Re: House of 1000 Corpses Saw it this afternoon - got mixed reviews in company (Scapegoat and Semprini)
I 'ed it - I'm all about early 1900's horror flick B-Movies that made no bloody sense. This felt like a modernization of those. No sense, somewhat cardboard acting, and a bit more blood n gore. Yay gore. |

| Re: House of 1000 Corpses It was alright... but tried a bit too hard to be weird and trippy at times.
Better than I dreaded, not as good as I hoped.
Cabin Fever looks good.
( As does the T.C.Massacre remake! ) |

| Re: House of 1000 Corpses I like the fact that the dialogue was utter nonsense that seemed to just be random sentences chucked together in places.
And the fact that it decided to be Hellraiser out of nowhere.

| Re: House of 1000 Corpses Err...Steve - you might be mixing things up.
The Nemesis style figure is actually the husband of the lady that plays Stifler's mom and was chasing the escapee around all Astaroth-style with a big axe.
The weird thing wired into the ceiling was Dr Satan |
