| | Cat in the Hat Now, the first thing I thought of when I heard Mike Myers was doing The Cat, I started thinking about The Grinch. The Grinch was always spoiled for me because it wasn't The Grinch on screen, it was Jim Carrey in a suit. I was expecting to watch Cat in the Hat and see not The Cat, but Mike Myers in a suit.
I was delighted that this wasn't the case. I can't tell how Myers did it exactly, but his mannerisms and voice completely changed throughout the film. Unfortunately, they seemed to change to a variety of other characters he's done. At times it was "Austin Powers in the Hat" or "The guy from So I Married an Axe Murderer in the Hat"
The film is a slightly extended version of the book, with a narrator giving us some of the classic lines. Two children are home on a rainy day when they suddenly meet a Cat in a Hat who proceeds to show them how to have fun in all sorts of out of control ways. However, the madcap antics of the Cat are broken up with Herman Munster-esque laughing coming from Myers every few moments.
The comedy oscillates between childlike wonder and play, with jumping on the couch and exploring a crazy world made of goo, to the obscenely adult sense of humour with references to pinups, sexual organs, an un-needed rave scene with the accursed Paris Hilton, and curse words.
The set design is easily the best thing about this film and emulates the illustrations from the book in bright Crayola starter-kit crayon box colours with uniform house and city design.
I learned a lot about this movie watching the children in the audience. They didn't understand any of the witty adult jokes, and were completely confused by them - especially as they seemed to go on for 3-5 minutes at a time. Similarly they seemed to be as creeped out by Myers' constant self-laughter as I was.
I wouldn't watch this film a second time, unless the DVD's got some surprises in it. Once was more than enough to shake up my childhood memories. | | | |

"They might as well have skipped the hassle of securing licensing rights and simply called this mess Mike Myers: Asshole in Fur."

| Re: Cat in the Hat Ahhh Glad to help.
Although I'd have thought with my posts your keyboard would be destroyed not by the juice flying out of nose but instead being shorted out by the amount of cum thats just sprayed all over it.
