Movie: Spiderman

Have you seen Spiderman? Did you like it? Yeah, go see this, it won't be a disappointed.

Ok those still reading either haven’t seen Spiderman or didn't like it or for some reason don't believe me and want me to elaborate so for you guys here's the deal. Having survived the green goblin in Spiderman we find our favourite web slinging hero two years down the line at college still free lancing for the daily bugle to pay the rent in New York city and saving the general populace. When ever the need arises. Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) has managed to land a role and is getting on with her life while Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) is finding trouble balancing the act of hero and every day joe a trial to say the least. Throw in a mad professor with tentacles and everything isn't hunky dory in the spidey household. Flushed and in need of a break Spiderman’s all for jacking it in and leading the easy life as a civilian. The main action revolves round Doc Ock/Dr. Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina) funded by Harry Osborn (James Franco) trying to create a clean energy solution which goes wrong and ends with Doc Ock going crazy and trying to destroy the city (inadvertently).

I have to say the weakest part of the movie was the action story line it didn't quite sit right, I never could see the reason behind the grand plan but it was still fun to watch as long as you don't delve too deep. The rest of the story on the other hand was excellent it show's that with superpowers comes great responsibility and a lot of pain and heartache. It manages to balance the need for action with the need to advance the characters and show that they are growing up and dealing with life around them. Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst manage to pull of the characters but won't be winning any Oscars, J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons) as Peters editor at the bugle is excellent and was great every time he was on screen. Harry Osborn (James Franco) comes across well as a brat that wants revenge but still doesn't want to hurt any of his friends...torn to say the least. Dr. Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina) seems to carry the roll having never been a great spiderman comic reader I can only guess at his portrayal.

I do think this would be better as a TV show rather than at the movies with more stories about the characters and there everyday lives with Spiderman saving people every so often rather than a big budget flick once ever year or two, but hey Spiderman 3's already coming so maybe this already is a series.

In the end I'd recommend this movie it's easy on the eye and the story is in general good. I can't actually think of any better films out at the cinema at the moment that will keep both girls and guys alike pleased.
