| Movie: The Woodsman [image=left]http://www.alternativenation.net/gallery/files/1/6/7/3/thewoodsman.jpg[/image] The Woodsman sees Kevin Bacon both producing and starring in this rather dark and unsettling movie about a convicted paedophile recently released from a 12 year prison sentence.
The story follows Walter (Bacon) as he is put into a new flat under the supervision of Sgt Lucas (Mos Def).
The flat is rather inconveniently located opposite a school where Walter daily watches the kids from his window, and also watches a sinister looking man he calls "Candy" who also seems to have an interest in the kids who attend. Walter daily fights his demons, and clearly hates who he is, and what he is.
There's no comic relief here, and there's no real happy ending.
The film is brilliantly acted, and to be honest I was surprisingly impressed by Mos Def's performance.
The movie is understandably unsettling in bits, but one scene towards the end on a park bench had the whole cinema slumping into their chairs just wishing it wasn't happening. Myself included.
I wouldn't recommend this to everyone, but that's not because of it's content. Quite simply, I don't think it's everyone's cup of tea, despite quite enjoying it myself. The Woodsman is on general release now. www.thewoodsmanfilm.com | | | |

| Re: Movie: The Woodsman 'The Woodsman' was a very well made and superbly acted film, although at times i did find it very uncomfortable to watch because of the subject matter. Throughout the film the themes of redemption, forgiveness and humanity were handled very well. |

wiz an awright film havin a go at a difficult subject. yeah taht bit yer oan aboot on the park bench. squirmerama. a wiz greetin anaw. a greet it anyfing these daze.
the thing a think that was most stunnin and a think whit naebody wants to know aboot is that a lot of pedos are normal as fuck. not the weirdos that people like to portray them as. i don't mean they urnae weird. a mean they are people ye know and love. haha it's freaky as fuck actually! wid ye still like them and gie thame a chance or wid ye be oot battering them over the heed wi a rolled up sun?
there is a dead funny bit in it as well though but a don't know if it's meant tae be. when he is talking tae the brother in law and he asks him......hehe cheeky basturt.
i didn't quite understand his bro in law though. he's like acting as if he doesnae really know and then he's like aye a knew aw the time.
so! dae ye think he shoulda been let oot or no?
it's an awright film. would recommend it. don't wear yer blue gap hoody though. an don't go wi hoody

| Re: Movie: The Woodsman I enjoyed this film.
Well, enjoyed is probably the wrong word, since it was such hard going. I appreciated this film.
I agree on the park bench thing, you're just subconsciously willing him not to, and cringing as things go further. the bit that got to me more was when him & the burd are on the bed, and she's grinding on his lap. The look on her face as she realises that this was what he used to do with (to?) the kids is the pivotal moment in the movie for me
It raises more questions than it answers, and that's a good thing. |

| Re: Movie: The Woodsman Saw it last night and thought it was a brilliant film, if at times uncomfortable viewing. Kevin Bacon was superb. Your tied between feeling sorry for him yet at the same time knowing what he did. Highly recommend it.

Saw this just now on Channel 4, it's one of those films that was brilliant, but that I don't feel comfortable saying I "enjoyed" because "enjoyment" in that sense of the word isn't what you're meant to feel when you see this. Very affecting, very bleak, very realistic and not an ounce of exploitation in it. Every single peformance and reaction in the film is believable, and that is very hard to achieve in a film like this.
If you can handle the subject matter - and not everyone will - it's well worth seeing.
