| Out now, rated 12A [image=left]http://www.alternativenation.net/gallery/files/1/batman.jpg[/image]Back in days of yore (1989) a chap called Tim Burton directed a movie called 'Batman', and it was jolly good. Indeed, it was wonderful, with Jack Nicholson perfectly cast as the Joker, and a brooding Michael Keaton as the Caped Crusader himself. It spawned a lavish sequel, which was also pretty good—if a little overboard on the crazy sets for my tastes—with Keaton reprising his role, and the unforgettably sexy Michelle Pfieffer as Catwoman.
Then things took a turn for the worse. For that read 'the next 2 films were utter shit'. Hollywood got its hooks in and threw in lots of big name actors, hoping to cash in on the success of the first two. Sadly, they got away with it, and we movie fans were left weeping in the streets at the cinematic abominations left to us.
Then some bright spark decided 'Here, let's completely ignore the crap that has gone before, and make an 'origins of...

And personally the Batmobile is the most sacred part of the Batman legecy for me. So I totally agree with you Tony!

I was quite shocked.
Especially given the utter trash we have seen.

| Batman Begins - IMDB Top 250 Just browsing the Internet Movie Database there, and found the page for Batman Begins. Scroll down on the link and notice that it's already in the top 250 films of all time... http://imdb.com/title/tt0372784/
It's been out one day! I haven't seen it myself, but I've heard very good things about it. |

| Re: Movie: Batman Begins Just back from seeing it and really enjoyed it.
I am sure you could tear it to pieces. I am sure some people won't enjoy it and not having read the comics I have no idea if this is accurate, but it was good fun. Maybe slightly long, but nevertheless it didn't feel too drawn out. Katie Holmes - hmmmm. She has a slanty mouth and it just grates me watching her talk out of the side of her mouth but overall I enjoyed this.
The Evening Standard gave this 4* I think that is reasonable.
(And the added bonus of a "meat on the bones" trailer for Willy Wonker put me in a good frame of mind from the start. I am really looking forward to this (and the Corpse Bride). Also a trailer for Madagascar which made me giggle).

| Re: Movie: Batman Begins If you liked Nightmare Before Christmas this looks very similar. I did so hoping Corpse Bride will be great too.
I liked how Batman Begins ended - thought that was pretty good.
I may go and see it again. On the bigger screen (as a preview they had it on smaller ones yesterday).

| Nice wee snippet from Empire here, about the next 2 films planned, we can only hope they are up to the same kind of standard. Quote: |

Batman Begins is still a month or so away from opening, but Warner Bros – the studio behind Chris Nolan’s revamping of the Dark Knight – has already put plans into place for franchise-building sequels… and those plans include the ultimate Bat-nemesis, The Joker.
“The next one would have Batman enlisting the aid of Gordon and Dent in bringing down the Joker... but not killing him, which is a mistake they made in the first one," Batwriter David Goyer tells the latest issue of US movie magazine Premiere. "In the third, the Joker would go on trial, scarring Dent in the process."
Intriguing. Gordon, in case you were wondering, is Lt. Jim Gordon (soon to become Commissioner of the Gotham City Police Department), played in Batman Begins by Gary Oldman. ‘Dent’ is Harvey Dent, Gotham’s DA, close friend of Batman’s alter-ego, Bruce Wayne, and the man destined to become the scarred and schizoid maniac, Two-Face. That role has not yet been cast.
But the plotting for an expected trilogy (will Batman Begins do anything less than $500 million worldwide, at least?) sounds like Goyer, Nolan, star Christian Bale and WB are keen to avoid the mistakes made on the recent series of Batman movies, by consciously establishing an ongoing mythology and a rogue’s gallery, without killing the villains off. | Full article here |
