| Lost in Translation: Love/Hate? I've never seen a film that can split opinion so much.
I've seen it 6 times, and each time I totally loved it more than the last.
The characters are what make it - the "nothing happens" argument is moot, since it's just about two characters and how they develop. PLENTY happens, it's just not "action".

Maybe it's too subtle.

| Re: Lost in Translation: Love/Hate? Yeah, don't get me wrong, it was a good film, I did enjoy it. But I wouldn't watch it more than twice. There was a lot of hype about it, and when I saw it I was expecting...I don't know, something a bit more evocative. Thought it was 'ok', but I didn't think it had the depth to it that a lot of better (less recognised) films had |

| Re: Lost in Translation: Love/Hate? Totally.
The photoshoot scene is proper laugh out loud, especially the Rat Pack stuff.
The sound track too, absolutely amazing.

| Re: Lost in Translation: Love/Hate? I absolutely loved this film for many of the reasons Marc has mentioned. It is subtle and wonderfully written. The film is visually stunning and is very funny. It is not for the MTV generation of film goers but it made me laugh and cry and I came out smiling. It is the subtlety of how the film develops that makes it the masterpiece so deserving of all of the praise and awards that it got.

| Re: Lost in Translation: Love/Hate? the soundtrack is fucking amazing. kevin shields, my bloody valentine, phoenix, air, jesus & mary chain - what more could you ask for!
bill murray is fantastic and the chemistry between him & scarlett just fills every scene. aesthetically, it's a joy to watch - no other film has made me want to visit a city more. |

| Re: Lost in Translation: Love/Hate? The night out they have in the bar, then onto the karaoke in the flat is one of the best segments in the movie. Totally sells the city to me.
