| Re: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Aye. It’s Indiana Jones. Preposterous is good.
Having said that, the series is so much better when dealing in faux-Christian and Medieval mythology. Because this new one doesn’t, it goes squarely in the box marked Temple of Doom.
Still but … third or fourth best Indy movie, it’s still an Indy movie! Bloody brilliant Sunday matinee tosh. I liked the addition of a period-accurate sidekick, too. The Indy movies were always as much homage to adventure serials as they were films in their own right.
Also, the little quips and references to other films were spot-on. Amazed they even squeezed in a Star Wars joke.
The one thing I could have done without were the prairie dogs. Bloody George Lucas and his bloody CGI critters. Worse than the Ewoks.

| Re: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull it was awful. Awful awful awful after the first hour. If they'd just kept it to no aliens it would have been fine. Some of the crystal skull mythology they were going on was sort of truths, but aliens... baby jesus wept !
But yeah, I feel robbed of all my happy childhood Indiana Jones memories. Worst indiana jones film to date |

| Re: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull You’re forgetting Les, people accept paranormal weird shit more easily if it’s got something to do with Christianity. The flying ghost thing was okay because it was God’s flying ghost thing.
That’s not meant to be as patronising as it sounds … I think the quasi-religious storylines of Lost Ark and Last Crusade work better because they extrapolate more. Tying in to hundreds of years of religious myth give the silly bits more weight. They didn’t do that for Temple of Doom and they didn’t do it for Crystal Skull.

They’re meant to be an extension of Mayan/Incan myth. Or, more precisely, (spoiler) El Dorado and the Conquistadors.
There’s less explanation and build-up in this movie than there has been in previous ones. More character development takes the place of developing a mystery, I think. It’s a shame, because I reckon the prevailing trends in TV and film meant that Spielberg and Lucas could have actually gone further out on a limb with the historical mystery and clue trail than they did in the past.
Having said that, It’s an Indiana Jones movie! It’s great.

| Re: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull I'd've preferred Shia LaBeouf and Scrubs Janny in one-another's role, but was able to see beyond the miscasting to the core of the work, and it was beautiful.
