| Re: Children of Men I'll be honest, this is another film where the trailers put me off, but after the goodness that was Little Miss Sunshine, which I also hated the trailers for, I'm all for giving this a swatch, since so far no one has said it's shite. That was a pretty long sentence.

| Re: Children of Men Saw it tonight.
Absolutely fantastic.
The production design blew me away - All too often, "Near-future dystopia" flicks end up looking too futuristic... Too shiny, or all the cars are melty "Concept cars".
People don't buy concept cars. They buy mass-produced cheaper models... Like the ones here.
The graffiti was also spot on - Loved the newspaper headlines in the "kidnap" scene.
Caine put in a great wee turn as Jasper ( I wonder if Owen's "Fuck me, that's strong!" was adlibbed, in his first few scenes? ).
Sid, I wasn't sure about - But I think the fact that his character was almost too caricatured to fit with the rest of the film actually served to throw the bleakness of the rest into sharp relief.
The attention to detail in the backgrounds in terms of what was happening as well as simply the sets was something I've rarely seen done so well - It's gonna stand up to repeated viewing on DVD, for sure.
I wonder if the ending was originally done differently, though? I look forward to the DVD.
Oh, BTW, Sully - If you go see this, tell me if anything looks familiar.
I'd not heard an awful lot about this, so was pretty fresh to it. Only after Puppy mentioned, did I remember vaguelly hearing something about how it was shot... After I pointed out how impressed I was with the length of the single shot that followed Owen through the entire "tower block fight" scene.
That was insane.
Lastly - Best use of a car battery in a film EVER.
[EDIT]
Ah! It's "The Operative" from Serenity! I knew I knew Luke from somewhere.
Apparently Emma Watson was offered the role of Kee, too. That'd have been interesting. |

Factual inaccuracy - at one point he can be seen fiddling witht he key at the ignition.
That's not how a Scenic works, it has a smart card and "Start/Stop" button.
The stuff in the background was great though.
There were so many fine details. |

There were so many fine details. | I'm pretty sure they fiddled with the design a little - But that's my point. They resisted the temptation to make everything look "Ooh! Sci Fi!" and went with retrofitted realism.
The HUD displays were neat |

George has been all boody lately though, and was welling up over the chance of the baby in it being deaf for life because of all the explosions! Hahaha, aw

I really really really liked this movie.
Everything was spot on, right down to the graffiti on the walls in the background.

I liked that the graffiti from the poster was in the film!
Very clever marketing actually, if you've seen it you'll know what I mean I'm sure.
And following on from Scapegoats comment- aye Emma Watson would have been interesting but it would have been overshadowed by her I think.
I actually LIKED Michael Caine in this which was odd. |

| Re: Children of Men Probably the best film I've seen this year. Certainly the most astonishingly well made.
I suspect the US release is a fair bit later because they're trying to get an Oscar buzz, and to be honest, if Cuaron doesn't get a Best Director nod it'll be a fucking disgrace.

| Re: Children of Men I cannot fucking wait for the DVD.
I suspect the "Tower block battle" area of the disc may end up worn out within a month.
Likewise the "Reversing Car". |
