The scoop
Keanu Reeves and director Scott Derrickson ("The Exorcism of Emily Rose," "Hellraiser") remake one of Hollywood's best sci-fi adventure films of all time.
The story
Remember "Klaatu barada nikto!" from the 1951 classic? Now Keanu Reeves recites the much-quoted command as Klaatu, an alien who travels to earth with a planet-annihilating robot named Gort to warn world leaders that their love of war will one day doom mankind.
The score
Risking a remake of this 1951 gem may seem brave to some and boneheaded to others. After all, famed British sci-fi author Arthur C. Clarke ranked the 1951 original as #7 on his list of best science fiction films ever made.
For all its "sky's the limit" special effects one thing is certain about this 2008 blockbuster. If Reeve's rendition of the peace-loving space traveller flies he'll make box office history.
