| Re: Cloverfield (JJ Abrams, viral marketing) Why did I subject myself to this? Why? Up until a few seconds before I paid my money I was going to go to 'No Country for Old Men', but nooooooo, I had a sudden change of mind.
What a fool. What a shite film.

| Re: Cloverfield (JJ Abrams, viral marketing) You're wrong. No that it's better than 'No Country...' per se, but it is far from a shite film.
I honestly don't see how anyone could've been disappointed by it, it delivered exactly what I was expecting, based on the advertising and whatnot. It was effective and engrossing, I really liked it.

| Re: Cloverfield (JJ Abrams, viral marketing) Why go to a film in which you know the whole thing is shot via handcam then complain about the gimmick? The gimmick is the vehicle by which to deliver this film's intention: to create a disaster/monster movie that focussed not on the carnage but on the impact on those affected. Not that I'm attempting to over-intellectualise it, it's just a fun bit of fluff. Was quite similar to 'The Host' actually, in retrospect, though I didn't enjoy that. Cloverfield kept a focus that The Host failed to.
Don't see how you can describe it as 'undramatic' either, it's certainly thrilling and visceral. I had been up all night before going to see this, and was falling asleep during the ads, but I woke to a bang in the Iron Man trailer and never came close to sleeping during this. After the first 10 minutes it keeps a relentless pace.
People aimed the same criticisms, that it was gimmicky and boring, at the similar Blair Witch Project, and I thought they were wrong then too. I guess some people just don't like this particular style of film.

I'm not sure if you're trying to change my mind too. Doesn't matter it was crap as far as I'm concerned. Last thing I'll say on it.
And I thought 'The Blair Witch Project' was awful too. It only came alive in the last five minutes.

| Fair enough. I can't help but get the impression that you went in not wanting to like it, possibly with the intent of later being able to bash it on the internet free from 'you haven't even seen it' persecution. I have no intention to try and change your mind, just disagreed with your assessment of it as a "shite film". Quote: |

| Bet it isn't. Quote: |

| For future reference then: stay away from 'gimmicky' hand-held camera films.

| Re: Cloverfield (JJ Abrams, viral marketing) Finally got to see this too, and I really enjoyed it.. Wasn't all that it was made out to be. Gotta love the Little Parasite's
Hopefully if they do follow up with a sequel it'll be the US Military doing a sweep and clear operation in the subway tunnels... |

| Re: Cloverfield (JJ Abrams, viral marketing) The Cloverfield hype sort of reminds me of Jurassic Park when there were all the stories of kids fainting in the cinema and goodness knows what else. Last time I watched it, it was difficult to watch Jurassic Park today and justify the hype and I'll be interested to see how Cloverfield fares in the future when there are no teasers and what have you to release any more.

Instead of hanging about they all leave and survive. Now that would have been truly original, and better. |

Cool.
