Re: Cloverfield (JJ Abrams, viral marketing)

Is this the Cloverfield monster? (Linked just in case it turns out to be real.)

Three news reports (none of which are in English) have popped up on youtube. They depict the destruction of Tagarato's Chaui station, which is the one closest to New York and supposedly holds a "dark secret". Notice how after the platform goes under pieces start being thrown back up.

German Chuai News: YouTube - Gesunkende Bohrinsel - Hat jemand was davon gehört?
Italian Chuai News: YouTube - Misteriosa esposione
Spanish Chuai News: YouTube - Es esto verdad? Es cierto? Hundimiento plataforma

Oh, and the english translation:
Quote:
Part1:
Approx. 1300 km out the coast of New York - 3 days ago, for unknown reasons - a drilling platform sunk. Recently international News distributed dramatical pictures from the collaps of the platform. The videos show ... (what you can see and what he already said) ... and experts have no explanation. (Bad animation included).

At the time 355 men were present on the platform (working, reading Playboy magazines, eating or sleeping). The "Chuai" drilling platform was opened in September 2007 (not so long ago, is it ?) and is one of the largest in the world. It's owned by the japanese bigsize-company "Takhuato". The high-tech drilling-system was developped by the German company "Zwickau engineering" in Leipzig by the Diploma-engineer Dominik Möltgen. We asked him, if the collaps could have been caused by wrong planing.

Part 3: (interview)
"From structural reasons there is no proove the the basic structure (What? there is no structural reason that the structure ... blablabla ...) or one of the security system could have caused such a hugh catastroph. (Hopefully a security system is never cuasing it, but did it fail ? Even the interview is very poorly made.) This is not only totally out of the question, it is physically impossible."

Part4: (Shooting)
Despite the bad quality of the videos from the platform it seems that there has been shooting. "Takhuato" was already earlier suspected to employ a big private army. And Experts (not technical experts this time, I hope) are trying to find out if the hasty getaway from crew-members was caused by a para-military attack. Actual informations say that there have been human casualities, which "Takhuato" denies. It is not yet clear, if there have been german people in the crew.

Re: Cloverfield (JJ Abrams, viral marketing)

Managed to find an english video on LiveLeak:

Also this from http://tagruato.jp/index2.php:

Quote:
"There has been an altercation at the Chaui Station. Although details are limited at present time, be assured that Tagruato is taking every measure necessary to ensure the safety and well being of all staff and crew. Specialty teams have been deployed, and are working aggressively to restore harmony at the site.

The cause of the problem is currently being investigated, although it is suspected that an eco-terror cell is responsible for the disturbance.

We have top investigators on our side. Everything will be resolved shortly, and all problems will be fixed. If you have any questions, please contact us at +81-3-5403-6318 for further instructions"

Re: Cloverfield (JJ Abrams, viral marketing)

People have seen it, apparently. I copy and paste below stuff about the monster's appearance and some other tit-bits and hell, I want to see it even more now.

***DO NOT READ BELOW UNLESS YOU WANT SOME BIG-ASS SPOILERS!***

SERIOUSLY!

-The monster isn't green, it's grey, though the color is somewhat ambiguous and hard to see

-It has 4 legs and 2 really small, crab-like legs on it's torso (the crab legs might've been vestigial).

-Throughout most of the movie, the monster is basically crawling, and at one point in the movie (you'll know when you see it) he gets pretty fucking tall.

-It's front "arms" are "backwards" (as if you're elbows protruded in front of you).

-It has 3 LONG fingers on each hand (like, index finger middle finger and thumb.

-Has a long tail. I also believe this may be it's tentacle - at one point in the movie, a giant fucking tentacle is featured, but I just realized I had no clue where the hell it was attached to the creature. Could've just been one of the arms though.

-Human-like head. Kind of. If you've ever seen a Warhammer 40k ork minus ears and ridiculous eyes, I would consider it more like that, but the description below fits well.

-Has these 2 red, puffing (possibly lungs) lobes on it's head. It's jaw looks like a bulldog (where it's "fangs" are over it's lips)

Also, the monster appears to be impervious to most damage from small arms and tank cannon fire to MLRS rockets. At one point it appears to be wounded, but that is rather subjective to the viewer. The "parasites" that are attached to it are much less like the Starship Troopers bugs as I anticipated and much more like headcrabs or the "head spider" that falls off that one guy in "The Thing". They're agile and have a long, bird-like beak-jaw that snaps and bites. They have several "leg" appendages and can walk on walls and ceilings. They're very quick.

EDIT: Also, I guess I should say it is rather skinny, save it's torso area. Looks pretty dexterous for a big ass monster.

Throughout most of the movie, it's either VERY close for 1-5 second shots, like of a foot. OR its a shot from far away (looking down from a roof) with kind of a shaky view, but it's easy to make out what it looks like. You'll see it pretty frequently throughout the movie. There are some real cool military vs. monster scenes. You get to see street battles and overhead views, including a VERY cool shot of it being bombed by a B2.

You don't get a complete glory shot of the beast, featuring it's entire body but mainly the head, until the end, for about 10 seconds. It's brief, but it's worth the wait. I really can't stress how cool I found the monster to be, and I don't think I can do it justice with my words. You have to see it yourself.

Re: Cloverfield (JJ Abrams, viral marketing)

I wish I had another account I could alternate with so I'm not posting after myself all the time..!

Here is the new TV Spot that everyone has been talking about that supposedly shows another glimpse of the monster through the smoke.

(You can't see shit in my opinion, but give it a go if you're interested.)

Oh, and a sweet-ass publicity shot:

Some fans who have seen the film have drawn the monster. I won't post any images in case anyone wants to wait.

It's a classic, apparently.

Quote:
J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves have created a new classic monster movie. It is everything you expect and it's also nothing you expect. This movie feels so real that it's not even a movie, it's an entire incredible experience.

That quote belongs somewhere in the "Pseuds' Corner" section of Private Eye. Regardless of how good this movie may be.
