Tonight, the rabbit hole that is Cloverfield’s viral marketing just got exponentially deeper and more bizarre. A digital manga comic book has turned up online, and while the Japanese panels have yet to be fully translated, the Bad Robot logo (J.J. Abrams production company) and a 2008 copyright for Paramount Pictures appear on the last page.

| Re: Cloverfield (JJ Abrams, viral marketing) Well I loved it Freaked me out more than most movies (but then disaster movies freak me out) Loved the monster. Liked the fact that there was no soundtrack. Just the mayhem in the city. Made it a lot creepier. |

| Re: Cloverfield (JJ Abrams, viral marketing) I thought this was great. Entertaining. A little different from most movies and just a big bit of fun. 85 minutes means it is fast and a film that appeared to be a "less is more" piece but with, presumably, a relatively big budget for the effects made this a film that was good fun. I care nothing for the marketing and I have no idea if there is any internet geekery surrounding this. I do know that it was a perfectly enjoyable Friday night film. It is not an Oscar winning script. There are no exceptional actors in this. But I don't always want to see a film that is worthy or overly complicated. Sometimes I just want to sit down for a couple of hours and watch a bit of fluff.
I am not someone who believes in trying to see a film before release by grabbing it off some internet site, and I try to avoid reviews before I see a film for myself. I enjoy the whole cinema experience and I thought this film worked well and am glad I saw it on the "big screen". The kind of film you expect a bit of backlash in the press but worth seeing so you can make up your own mind.

I heard that you never see it, which put me off a bit, but recent information has come to me on MSN that this is not true.

Great movie. Well entertaining, and downright creepy at times.
Also, seeing it in the UGC and coming out to have that panoramic view over the East end out the window...
Heh. |

| Re: Cloverfield (JJ Abrams, viral marketing) Anyone else notice the wee logo on the opening screens?
Also, something I didn't spot - Watch any shots of the sea in daylight very carefully. Especially towards the end.
... http://www.1-18-08.com/ has been updated too.
If the monster in the movie is still alive, then what the hell is that in the most recent photo? Something it ate?
Or are there multiple monsters? |

Or are there multiple monsters? | Well, they're whales.
Regarding the two earlier points, I assume you are meaning the Dharma logo (from Lost)? Also, the splash landing in the sea? Apparently some sort of satellite falling from the sky, but I'm yet to be convinced. |
