| Re: Cloverfield (JJ Abrams, viral marketing) I loved this, the scarcity of full-on monster bits didn't bother me - but then, I liked the Blair Witch Project, which showed precisely NO witch. Considering the premise of the movie - a small group of people trying to survive and escape this attack - I would've been annoyed if they spent all their time filming the very thing they're running away from and going out of their way to get a good shot. I don't think my disbelief would be even momentarily suspended if the monster was on the screen much more often than it was. |

| Re: Cloverfield (JJ Abrams, viral marketing) I quite enjoyed it!! I was really expecting it to be terrible. The main thing that annoyed me was that the statue of liberty's head is well bigger in real life. Good cheesy disaster movie, hurrah! |

Did you pay attention to the film at all? The point is that they're not running away from it at all. Rather than let the army clear them out they decide to go off on their own to find Binty McPunctured. Everyone that is running in the opposite direction from them are the people trying to survive and escape the attack. Quote:

It's like Hud was waiting on someone to say "Know how i told you to film everything? Well, i kinda meant everything at the party. You can stop now and watch where you're going". |

I think I've beaten viral marketing. HA! |

First bit I said - survive - covers that. Once they all get together, know they're all alive, they are then trying to escape - like almost everyone wanted to do originally. The guy is trying to save his ex, the rest don't want him (or themselves) left behind. And once that bridge was destroyed, escape was hard, but surviving - e.g. retreating underground to continue the search as opposed to staying on the surface - was still necessary.
Secondly, Hud explains the camera's presence when he says people 'will want to know how it all went down.' However, once they have got everyone together, they don't hang around to film, they GET THE FUCK OUT. The one time they really hang around purely to film, the cameraman gets ripped to shreds. As he should. |

| Re: Cloverfield (JJ Abrams, viral marketing) I was so excited about this, finally saw it today and it's EFFING EXCELLENT imo.
I knew not to expect a Godzilla-esque action-packed Hollywood blockbuster, so maybe that's why - give me something like this instead any day.
Also, anyone that downloads this instead of seeing it on the big screen is a fucking tube.

| Re: Cloverfield (JJ Abrams, viral marketing) I saw this last night while mildly hungover and in definate need of a good sleep. This is not a winning combination when watching something that's filmed in a documentary style. Motion sickness tastic!
Not as bad as my mate who from ten minutes in had to watch the back of the seat in front of her rather than the film, and then eventually left about half way through!
Not bad. Could have done without the corny love story bits though. They just bugged me. |

I know this isn't really the point of your post, and I hate when folk get all uber-elitist about shit - you know I'm not like that - but, man, it is GENUINE TRAGEDY that when people think of the word "Godzilla" they think "action-packed Hollywood blockbuster".

| Re: Cloverfield (JJ Abrams, viral marketing) What I meant was that it wasn't "Look! We've made a big monster, here's an hour and a half of it cutting about! With planes and shit!", it was more Blair Witch-esque in style. |
