| Funny Games (Tim Roth, Naomi Watts) 'Funny Games' is the American remake of the 1997 Austrian film of the same name directed by original writer/director Michael Haneke (Hidden, The Piano Teacher). Haneke's take on society and how depictions of violence reflect and shape it, the plot involves two sociopaths (Brady Corbett and Michael Pitt) who hold a family (Naomi Watts and Tim Roth) hostage and torture them with sadistic games. |

| Re: Funny Games Yeah, tell me about it.
From what i can gather it's mainly due to the fact that despite been critically acclaimed upon it's release in Europe, it was completely ignored in the US. I guess it could be seen as Haneke's response to the current trend for over-the-top, violent and stylistic entertainment, so it's kind of like an anti-Hostel.
Also according to Haneke, it's a frame for frame remake. |

| Re: Funny Games It's something of a headscratcher certainly, especally with it being the original director at the helm.
Still Roth +Watts = bums in seats, and if it really is a frame for frame remake, i will be amused at the critics reviews either way.
Now for someone to remake 'man bites dog'.... |

| Re: Funny Games (Tim Roth, Naomi Watts) I love Funny Games. This is actually quite an interesting discussion point if it is indeed a frame-for-frame remake, depending on its success, about the way audiences receive foreign film.

| Re: Funny Games (Tim Roth, Naomi Watts) just back from seeing this and i have to say i really enjoyed it! pretty tense to watch and very evil in parts but the direction and acting is first class. there was something about it that felt really old skool thriller, like an old hitchcock or something. the only negative i have is that at parts it does feel a little overlong, but id highly recommend it.
