Re: El Orfanato (The Orphanage)

Went to see this with Bob and really liked it. I wouldn't say it was FUCKING AMAZING but still really good.

To be honest I thought the story was a tad obvious in a "seen it before" kind of way and that's what let it down for me.

Re: El Orfanato (The Orphanage)

I think the "seen it before" thing really worked FOR this film. Knowing what was coming made the apprehension increase.

Re: El Orfanato (The Orphanage)

I saw it in Glasgow on Monday and spied BigSexyGordon.

Other than that I enjoyed it. The old bird getting hit with the Ambulance, and subsequently screaming with her jaw all over the shop was CREEPY.

Re: El Orfanato (The Orphanage)

Is it gory? I'm thinking about seeing it, although not usually my favourite genre, I think it'll be good to see a film in spanish - might count as revision

No gore at all.
It's just a brilliant ghost story.

As i say, it's pure pretentiousness. You don't see folk insisting on calling Die Hard 4 'Live Free Or Die Hard' just because that's its US title.
I agree that annoys me too, although i suppose the problem is if there is already an english film with the same title. A few modern languages students have corrected me in my pronunciation of spanish directors named which annoyed me too, as i think it would sound silly to put on a spanish accent half way through a sentence.

The seam goes along the edge of the door, so it would have opened without tearing.

She didn't have to, you could clearly see the hole in the paper, she just seemed to peel it back a bit to get a better swatch of it

On the other hand it kinda annoys me that none of the foreigners I work with seem to be able to call me Mick as, in their own languages, apparantly that would be pronounced "Mach". So they keep calling me Mach while I go out my way to pronounce their names as they would say them. Common courtesy to call someone by their name and not a bastardisation of it.

Re: El Orfanato (The Orphanage)

Living/working in here I got some English guys, a Welsh couple, a few Poles, a guy from Belfast, a few Kenyans, a Bulgarian, three Romanians, a guy from Mauritius, a few guys from Madeira, Portugal and one other Scottish guy who I never see as he's head lifeguard so in another building.

Any ideas for names?
