| NOOOOOO! Robocop remake! Why?
Some films, I can see a remake being interesting.
Some were perfect products of their time, and will almost certainly become EPIC FAILS if remade...
I can't see anyone pulling off a Robocop remake at all. |

| Re: NOOOOOO! Robocop remake! Take original film update some of the effects with super slick CGI.
and it would still somehow be worse.
Nothing could be worse then the later robocops though.

| Re: NOOOOOO! Robocop remake! I know that Frank Miller wrote the script for Robocop 2 only to have it picked apart and rewritten at production stage resulting in him releasing his original vision for the story as a graphic novel. I've no read it though so I dunno if it's any good. Giving him a shot with full creative control may be interesting.
But aye, Robocop's pretty much my favourite film so let's not be fucking with it. |

| Re: NOOOOOO! Robocop remake! I've not read it either, but Miller didn't write it, it's just based on his original script.
'The Spirit' will tank and no one will ever hand Frank Miller serious money to make a film ever again.

Robocop isn't a fantastic movie because of a great plot, well drawn characters etc, that would survive remake after remake. It's just pure 80s cheeseball action which is only promoted above a 4am TV movie because it possesses that inexplicable, intangible essence that mercifully infected a few films of that time. "Commando" being another example.
They can't not fuck this up. |

| Re: NOOOOOO! Robocop remake! Nah, 'Robocop' is a great movie because Paul Fuckin' Verhoeven directed it. You're talking like it's a brainless action flick when in fact it's a pitch-perfect satire that still induces instant mirth in anyone within earshot 'til this day.

I mean, the satire's good but it doesn't cut particularly deep and could easily be updated. The cheeseball action could also be replicated. It would still never work like the original, though.
It's greater than the sum of its parts, is what I was getting at. |

| Re: NOOOOOO! Robocop remake! I agree. I just took umbrage with 'it's just pure 80's cheeseball action', which is a bit of an unfair description.

| Re: NOOOOOO! Robocop remake! there is nothing wrong woth pure 80's cheeseball action, it's the type of films that Hollywood can't get right these days. Maybe it's because they don't have the right type of action stars these days.
Gone are the days of films like Robocop, Big Trouble In Little China, Kickboxer, Commando, Total Recall, Cobra, The Running Man, Tango & Cash, Universal Soldier, Over The Top, Raw Deal, A.W.O.L etc..
The glory days of action movies when the biggest starts could deliver cheesy put down lines but couldn't pronounce their own names properly in interviews. what are we left with these days? Jason Statham, who never seems to be the right person (it's like Phil Mitchell in a remake of any film from the list above), and Vin Diesel trying to replicate Schwarzenegger's career but without the consistent box office. That's what made me enjoy Doomsday, it was as cheesy as you like but subtext hunters could find plenty (even the films logo is a bastardised Union Flag, as if it's spelling out the end of the UK).
So no, I don't want Robocop ruined either. |
