Today to I spoke to director Marc Abraham whose new movie, “Flash of Genius” is coming out soon. But he's not known for directing. he's know for producing. One of his future projects is a remake of the 1982 horror classic “John Carpenter's The Thing.”

I asked Marc how can you possibly top the 1982 version and whether or not it is a remake or a sequel. This was his reply:

"This is more of a prequel than a sequel, there is your exclusive. Its going to be taking place in the same time frame."

So I asked him if we are going to find out the origins of the alien and it landing on earth and he said:

“These are the events leading up to the 1982 film.”

Hmm... not convinced...

I have always said that John Carpenter should never have been allowed access to CGI. I know he won't have much input to any remake or whatever, but I fear what they would do with a CGI'd Thing...Rob Bottin's work is what made "The Thing" all that more believable, nobody had seen anything like it before, and CGI wasn't around for people to sit there and go, "How did they do that? Oh, right. Computers. Meh." I don't want computer effects, I want to see a fully animatronic facsimile of Kurt Russell's beard attacking people.

And "Its going to be taking place in the same time frame"...maybe it had already infected every other base on the Antarctic, and that's why they couldn't get a hold of anybody? Or it was infecting other bases at the same time? Or it had already hit the main-land? Meh.
