remakes and reforming?

Not sure if this is the right forum to post in but here goes

after reading the thread about a possible 3rd ghostbusters film and funnily enoughn watching the first one whilst reading that,it got me to thinking about all the remakes coming about.

Hellraiser, nightmare on elm street, halloween(im mainly into horror films so really are the only ones i know about) are just a example

is it because they are running out of original ideas or is everybody regressing back to films and music of their younger years?

its seems lots of bands and pop groups are reforming as well.

I know many films and music isnt made for the love it the craft and its about making profits but making sequels and remakes years after just ruins it for me and seems so false.

Personally i prefered the rob zombie halloween because it got more into why he was the way he was,but i guess thats another sensitive thread!

whats your views on remakes and reforming bands, groups etc?

Re: remakes and reforming?

Do we really need another thread about this? Most people's opinions can be learned easily by searching this section for the word remake. As for bands reforming, this isn't really the place for that discussion - this is.

Personally i abhor 99% of movie remakes. Bands, different matter really - depends on the motivation of those involved. I don't think the 2 can really be compared since very few movie remakes involve those who were involved in the original, but bands reforming can be 100% of the original. In the past few years I've seen Pop Will Eat Itself, Carter USM and Jesus & Mary Chain do reformation shows, all of which were brilliant. Lawnmower Deth have also just reformed, which is excellent news. There really is no comparrison between movies and bands, it's not as if the Hellraiser remake will feature the original cast, in the same roles.

Re: remakes and reforming?

You may well be right but i wasnt aware there was a limit on threads posted and new people may have things to add, like myself.

I do see there is a music forum. I was asking people if they thought there was a trend with this, band and groups being the other.

There isn't a limit on threads being posted, but you'll find that most regulars get bored seeing the same thread being reposted several times in the same section - particularly when you could have easily posed your question in one of those. Just a tip, it'll prevent your thread being deleted, merged with another or just ignored.

Re: remakes and reforming?

I reckon Hollywood and the Music industry seem to be getting increasingly circular creatively although on the flipside there is probably a wider selection of everything you could get before and new stuff around now then there ever used to be.

Re: remakes and reforming?

I know that movies are made many times for the whole profit thing but when something has been done years ago and somebody decides to do a remake im never sure if they do so because they think it needs refreshed/they can do better/they want to pay homage to a film they love/or they want a wad of cash from filmgoers who they know will pay to see or the reasons above?

I wonder how i would feel if i had made a film and years later somebody made a remake, would i feel pissed off or curious as to how they'd do it?
