| must-see films (in my opinion) Pi - black and white film. if you don't like black and white, don't watch it, but if you can stand black and white, watch it - it has some of the best scenes ever.
the prophecy - film about good angels v bad angels. a bit gross at times, but otherwise, it's very good.
the butcher boy - difficult to describe. the tale of a mentally unstable irish boy. funny but shocking at the same time.
requiem for a dream - darren aronofsky needs to make more films. this is the first film he's made, and it's amazing.
kids - one of the most controversial films of the 90's. well worth watching.
ok, i'm done. (i'm also extremely bored, which is why i done this) |

| My fave films: Ratcatcher - set in the schemes of Glasgow during the rubbish strikes, not that you notice any difference
Farinelli Il Castrato - Italian subtitled film about an opera singer who's castrated befor puberty to maintain his voice.
Battle Royale - kids sent to an island, only one gets off alive tale, amazing cinematography, ironic humour, and sexy skool kids, heh.
The Way We Were - Robert Redford. yum.
Pokemon: The First Movie - emotionally charged, it touches you on so many levels, and theres such a strong moral backbone to the story, without it being patronising or judgemental |

| Evil Dead 2 - mostly because this series of films is kick ass! Ash the the ultimate anti-hero and is subjected to all sorts of jolly pranks by 'The Evil' force.
Princess Mononoke - Japanese Anime classic, has a beautiful story and moral, talking animals are class, and the soundtrack is amazing.
Ring - was on channel 4 the other week, based around a cursed video tape, after viewing said tape the person dies a week later.
Airheads - class heavy metal movie, extremely funny and slightly stuck in the Bill and Ted era - it rocks! |

| Usual Suspects - Quality heist movie with a delicious twist at the end.
Fight Club - A good commentary on extremist groups, beautifully filmed (but then, everything David Fincher does is)
Final Destination - Good teen horror movie, with some hilarious death scenes, a very dark sense of humour (John Denver, anyone), and the best "Jump out of your seat" moment. Ever.
Monty Python - Any of their movies are almost non-stop comic genius. Watch them all (and buy them all on DVD - except The Meaning of Life - Wait for the Special Edition) |

| Ring - Sorry but I think this is one of the worst movies I've ever seen but I guess it's personal taste, after all I hated Blair witch and I consider them in the same style.

| Yeah, I've got the DVD which has German & English audio and English subtitles. So you can watch it in German with English subs, or you can watch it in English..... or German with no subs... the choice is yours!
Class film!

EDIT: Just remembered, there's even a reference to Pi half way through Requiem for a Dream. And Sean Gullette and Samia Shoaib make appearances. |

| Re: must-see films (in my opinion) So far unmentioned:
Alien + Aliens - Two of the best sci-fi / horror films ever made. One a horror masterpiece, one the best vietnam movie never made.
Full Metal Jacket - The best vietnam movie ever made
M*A*S*H - Robert Altmann's original movie. Somewhat darker in tone than the TV series that followed it, but that doesn't harm the comedy.
Clerks - Come on, if you don't know who Kevin Smith is, you can hand in your "Alt.kid" card right now!
Leon ( The Professional ) - Slick, funny, extremely violent, touching and just French enough to be great .
The Fifth Element - Another from Luc "Leon" Besson. One of the most stylish sci-fi movies ever made. This also manages to be very funny indeed, and IMHO the accusations of "Style over substance" are unfounded.
The City Of Lost Children - Another French flick - And this time you have to be able to read to watch it. A surreal fantasy about an evil old man who steals the dreams of kidnapped children. Far better than Alien Resurrection
Office Space - Mike "Beavis And Butthead" Judge does live-action Dilbert. Sort of
The Thing - One of the few remakes ever to turn out better than the original. IMHO this is John Carpenter's best movie. It's about a group of scientists on a polar research station who find a crashed U.F.O. The occupant turns out to have the ability to infect and mimic any other life form. Paranoia levels = through the roof.
Three Kings - Highly underrated "comedy" about a squad of US soldiers in Iraq who stumble across a secret stash of stolen gold. Excellent comedy turns here from Marky Mark, The Clooney, and Richard Coufey of the Torrance Community Dance Group ( As featured in Fatboy Slim's "Praise You" video )
Being John Malkovitch - Weird. Very... Fucking... Weird. John Cusack finds a door hidden in his office block that leads into the head of the actor John Malkovitch - Allowing you to experience all that he experiences for the next 15 minutes. Don't even TRY to understand what it's about before you watch it - Just watch it! It's good. Honest.
The Dark Crystal / Labyrinth - The Jim Henson studio's two collaborations with Brian and Wendy Froud. I don't think anyone here WON'T have seen at least one of them. TDC is a Lord Of The Rings-esque epic about a fantasy kingdom that's been taken over by evil... Obviously, it's the least likely, weak-seeming little kid who has to safe the place.
Labyrinth's the one where Jennifer Connelly has to rescue her baby brother from a goblin infested other world - facing such horrors as the Bog Of Eternal Stench, and David Bowie's bulging crotch.
The Transporter - Another action flick, another Luc Besson storyline, and another movie chock-full if incredible stunts, massive explosions, great chases... And this one's got a good plot too! What are the chances, eh?
Dog Soldiers - Squaddies Vs Werewolves in the arse-end of nowhere... Scotland.
The Scorpion King - Hey, it's got The Rock in it, and he fights lots of bad guys. There's a fit bird, and an English baddie. Annoying kid? Check. Insane old dude? Check. Inappropriately modern dialogue? Check. Huge set-piece fight scenes? Check. It's mince, but it's enjoyable mince. |

| Re: must-see films (in my opinion) Battle Royale - my favourite movie!! So good! And featuring Chiaki Kuriyama from Kill Bill in one of her first roles!
Airplane! - if you don't laugh at least once at this, there's something far wrong with you!!
Some Like It Hot - one of the best comedies ever made.
Heathers - especially if you had a shitty time in high school!
The Godfather trilogy (yes, even Part III!) - a masterclass in both film-making and acting.
The Virgin Suicides - an amazingly dreamy, beautiful film.
The Happiness Of The Katakuris - just 'cos it's completely bonkers!
Incidently, everyone always gets really angry with me when I mention that I haven't seen any of the Back To The Future movies, so maybe they should be there too?
