| Re: Undiscovered Gems Angel heart - Again, probably not obscure, but until I forced it upon many a friend and family member, not many of them had heart about this.
Robert De Niro & Mickey Rourke are amazing in this and it's just a great film. If you haven't seen it - GO WATCH IT NOW! |

| Re: Undiscovered Gems hmm...
"the icicle thief" is well weird and an amazing film... italian I think...the real-life world gets muddled with the film and the TV commercials
there's a japanese film called "tampopo" about a woman that goes in search of the perfect noodle... at least 60% of this film made no sense to me lol!
"delicatessen"... french film and "toto le hero" (another fernch film) are both definately worth watching.
I'm sure i could think of more but just not right now... and i'm sure I must know at least some in english!!! |

| Re: Undiscovered Gems The Sea Inside - really good Spanish film
Ooh - and Hable Con Ella just for the very bizarre vagina scene. I was NOT expecting that.
Intacto
All Spanish. I went through a Spanish phase. It was good.

It's the cure to the nihilism of Trainspotting. Oh yes.
Delicatessen: Funny and French. Excellent. And there's a bit with a monkey and a clown and some weird twisty camera bits. Hurrah. | I fucking love both these films.
For my choices I'd say He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not, an Audrey Tautou film about obsessive love with a really great twist, also French.
If you like Amelie (and I adore Amelie, so much so I visited every location in the film when I was in Paris ) you'll like Happenstance - it's not so easy to find here as it wasn't released in the UK but you can usually get it on Ebay. It's similar (in some places it was released as Amelie the sequel) but it's more like a series of small events rather than one big plot. Which I like, of course.
Two more films are by my favourite director Pedro Almodó var - My Life Without Me and Talk To Her, the latter being Spanish. My Life Without Me is a beautiful film about a young woman who finds out she only has weeks to live but doesn't tell her family so she sets out to achieve things she always planned to. Debbie Harry has a small part in it which she's excellent in. Talk To her is about two men and their developing friendship as they care for their girlfriends who are in comas, one from a bullfight and one from a car crash. The soundtrack is haunting and it's one of the most beautifully written films I've ever seen. |

Y Tu Mama Tambien was superb. Mexican road movie but it was beautifully shot and a really great story.
