| Undiscovered Gems What it says on the tin, movies you think are cracking but seem relatively unheard of. Mine'll probably be less obscure than I think, considering I've only started paying attention to new movies over these past few months. Intermission's a lovely wee Irish flick with plenty of Brit stars (Colin Farrell as an arrogant yob? Oh aye) and yet I only heard of it when my sis brought it back from the video shop. Loads of Pulp Fiction-esque wee links and a cheeky wee streak let this transcend it's rom-com listing. Spun. Kinda like Go, only far more "druggy" Brittany Murphy is trailer trash you could eat with a spoon.
I'll post more later. Now YOU go. |

| Re: Undiscovered Gems La Haine - dunno how unknown this is for a foreign film, but it is amazing - probably one of my favourite films. A day in the life of Paris' dark underbelly.
Down By Law - This is only good depending on what mood your in, Tom Waits is in it and it's quite slow but the character studies in it are cool as fuck

| Re: Undiscovered Gems No, if you want to spend two hours wishing Lynch, yourself, everyone involved in the film and every art fag everywhere who likes it and thinks it's 'deep' and 'meaningful', then watch Mulholland Drive. |

I'll post more later. Now YOU go. | Good call on both films.
On a similar note to Spun, I really liked Rules of attraction (despite the fact it had Dawson from the "Creek" i it.
Inside I'm dancing - I put off going to see this at the cinema as I thought it would be a big pile of overly sentimental poo, where it is actually one of the most touching (without being too soppy) and witty films I've seen in a long while.
Again, these aren't that unheard of, but I'll have a think and no doubt post some more. |

| Re: Undiscovered Gems Oh Andrew, you're such a comedian.
I still worry you are right, though. I'll watch it at some point and voice my opinion.

| That was a terrible, terrible film. What on earth possesses you to express any kind of liking of it whatsoever? |

As for other films...
Delicatessen: Funny and French. Excellent. And there's a bit with a monkey and a clown and some weird twisty camera bits. Hurrah.
La Cité des Enfants Perdus: Can't find the fucker anywhere. I've seen it dubbed and it's pretty good, but I want to see it subtitled. From the same people who made the above. Utterly mad, French and has Ron Perlman.
Das Cabinet Des Dr. Caligari: Just damn good. And odd.
Human Traffic: I don't know if this is considered unheard of. I think it depends who you ask, really. I believe it's a must-have if you're into the club scene but not really known outside of it. I have no clue. Will lead to shouting "NICE ONE, BRUV!" at anyone who says they've seen it. It's the cure to the nihilism of Trainspotting. Oh yes. |
