| Re: Batman - The Dark Knight Actually, Anne thought Ledger's Joker voice sounded like it was based on Nicholson's. Nicholson certainly was a brilliant Joker. |

| Re: Batman - The Dark Knight Really enjoyed the film. Can't believe Batman dies though! (How do you do hide tags again?)
Also, the audience was the best cinema audience I've sat amongst for YEARS - not a single "aww whit, ah've ran oot o wriggleys, goat any mehr?" over the quiet bits; not a single mobile phone conversation...
Which must be a credit to the film for keeping everyone interested / entertained throughout.

Was the tone of that movie "the best" interpretation of Batman? Maybe, maybe not - everyone has their own preferences of where they want their Batman to sit in the camp->grim scale. But no-one could seriously say Jack Nicholson was anything less than flawless in his role as Tim Burton's Joker, surely to God?
I don't have a properly formed opinion of Ledger in the role yet, as I won't see the movie until tomorrow. Pure heavy mega thumbs up for the top-class use of hide tags for spoilers in this thread so far, legit I mean that and will get around to repping all involved soon. | He was brilliant, but he does play 'Jack Nicholson as the Joker' rather than playing 'The Joker', which you could say about most of his roles. |

But I think everyone forms their own opinion on what the characters should be like in a comic book to movie adaptation. In my opinion Bale's Batman and Ledgers's Joker are exactly how I would have imagined them to be. Batman, in my mind should be totaly transformed from a smooth talking billionaire into a menacing, angry, daunting figure, absolutely seething and yet still controlled enough to be the disciplined Ninja that he was trained to be. Nolan made that happen.
As far as the Joker goes, in my opinion the joker needed to have that absolute disregard for himself and others and an outlook of sheer anarchy. A total psychopath. Visually, a mess, horrible hair, half-applied, fucked up make-up.
Jack Nicholson was incredible as Tim Burton's joker, I can't fault him to any degree, his performance was flawless but in the context of what I think the Joker should be, Ledger pulled it off to an absolute tee. |

I watched Lords Of Dogtown the other night and thought he was impersonating Val Kilmer. His character was 50% Kilmer's Jim Morrison and 50% Kilmer's The Saint (the one with the big teeth). He was a good impersonator, not a great actor. Maybe Nicholson should get the Oscar instead. |
