Save the Cameo, Edinburgh

The Cameo Cinema in Edinburgh is one of Scotland’s finest.

Someone’s trying to turn it into a pub.

Someone else is organising a campaign to try and stop them.

the cameo is in the advanced stages of sale with the intention of
turning it into a large bar. The smaller screens will stay but the large
auditorium will go. If you want to object to this, express your view.

Personally, I’m not sure it’s going to be a wholly bad thing. I love the Cameo, I really do … but the idea of shutting half of it’s screens to extend the bar area doesn’t seem so bad. I’d consider campaigning to retain it’s current artistic direction, though. I fear this will result in it showing shitty mainstream movies.

The current cinema one has been as it is for a long time, can't remember the exact date though. It's be a shame to see it go.

Shame, i'm quite partial to the Cameo. I'd prefer it if they just revamped the current bar, 'cause it's a bit sparse.

Comically, a Scottish journo who really should know better phoned up Stefan King to ask why he was doing this, to which he simply replied “It’s nothing to do with me. Piss off”, or words to that effect.

The bar only got refurbished in the last couple of years. It's not a bad wee bar as Edinburgh pubs go.
