So, I'm driving past Bellahouston Park today. It's the sort of summer sunny day that makes you kick off your shoes, loosen your tie and wander about the grass chatting to other sun worshippers. A track comes on the radio that makes me crank up the volume, roll down the window and tap my fingers on the window frame - that track was
Over and Over by Hot Chip.
The London-based five piece released their album
Warning on May 22nd after singles
Over and Over and
Boy from school hit the shelves earlier this year, and the band are following up with appearances at Leeds and Reading, then the Indian Summer Festival in Glasgow. Where Hot Chip differ from other electro bands is that they insist on everything being played live, with no backing tracks or computer-aided trickery to make things easier.
What do they sound like? Laid back Chemical Brothers mixed with Daft Punk's electro beats, with a thumping bassline to boot.
Over and Over is one of those irritatingly catchy tunes that will have you dancing on your chair to the song in your head whilst
Boy from school bears similarity to the Chemical Brothers
Star Guitar. Don't believe me? Check them out for yourself.
Hot Chip's debut album
Warning is out now on DFA/EMI records.
