UFO's
The Monkey Puzzle is some fine shit, an unexpected treat, sort of like finding a twenty pound note in a library book. That happened to me once, honest.
Unlike most of these old rockers that're still on the go, UFO seem to still be able to rock, opener
Hard Being Me, is tight bluesy hard rock, with the boistrous vocals of Phil Mogg laying it AC/DC style over some thundering ruanchy blues rock.
Even better is
Heavenly Body which resembles Alice In Chains, with a down tuned chug that gives way to some prime Robert Plant wails underpinned by some gnashing guitar and drum work. An essential treat for any fan of heavy rock in the slow and menacing mode.
The rest of the album is a more bluesy affair though, Free shot through with some southern fried guitar wailing, as on
Some Other Guy, a mid paced number that's beamed in from a US radio station in '72.
Goodbye You has some neat slide guitar whilst the only sort of turkey is
Drink Too Much which reminds me of cunts like Bon Jovi.
The rest of the record is solid meat n' potatoes rock. So UFO then, unexpected funky object.
