Deadline present themselves as a London-based streetpunk/hardcore outfit with
Take A Good Look, their fourth album release. Already this year they’ve played a huge amount of gigs including a large number of multi-band bills, so hopes are no doubt high that this release can push them up the ranks.
Take A Good Look is a strange release, almost as though two different bands have done the songwriting. Tracks like
Blood On Your Hands and
Do You Think are pretty straightforward fast punk efforts that show little imagination or deep thought in their construction. On the flipside,
All I Ever Wanted is a big shouty rock effort with an hauntingly Evanescence tinge to the vocals. When all is said and done lead vocalist Liz Rose is the talent that holds the band together. Take that out and you’ve got a poorly produced and patchy release that doesn’t have many stand out moments save for the pleasingly well constructed harmonies on final track
Moving Lines.
Deadline are no doubt a good bet for a ten band bill but unless they start breaking free of the “1,2,3 … PUNK!” formula then it would be my bet that they’ll struggle to distinguish themselves and develop into solid headliners.
Take A Good Look is out now on People Like You Records
