“RAWK!” proclaim this Toronto four-piece punk rock squad. These guys are obviously no stranger to cliché and having been around for 13-odd years no doubt have every right to move beyond parody. Tight jeans, cowboy hats and Les Pauls … it’s all looking good so far as their latest offering
Terminal Volume cues up.
I won’t beat about the bush any further, this album is a wee gem. It’s uncomplicated punk edged rock and roll music for the unwashed generation. If I had long hair it’d be down and swinging by the time
Sonic Iguana, the third track on the album, settles into a pacey groove that’s just crying out to be danced to. This is a band that understands the need to make a record that’s unfussy and shows off exactly what they’re about
: Great riffs, a low throaty sexy vocal and every rock and roll reference you could wish for.
Ultimately what could have so easily turned into a cheesy Stooges/Motorhead rip-off somehow works perfectly, and what’s more it’s recorded superbly to give a tight—almost live—feel to proceedings. If I was you, and I liked a bit of rock and roll with minimal bullshit I’d keep an eye out for these guys on tour.
