Grinderman is Nick Cave's new band and
Get It On is their new single, sounding like an obnoxious belching from rock's past, a mixture of early Saints howl, Robert Johnson blues and the rampant rock n' roll deconstruction of the Stooges. Cave's voice looms large out of the mix, underneath a razor of guitar noise is countered by a piano bashed to an inch of its life. Ultimately as commercial as a razorblade pie but a glorious feast for anyone with true soul.
The Hedrons'
Heatseeker is in no way anywhere near the same league, sounding like Veruca Salt playing some brash Britpop. It's big shiny lead licks, with the overwhelming pound of feminine rock power with strong forceful vocals, good old Joan Jett touch of just rocking, irrespective of having a fanny. It's passable, bright indie rock that's strong for its generic format.
DJ Shadow's
This Time uses an old male style soul vocal and wraps it around gentle funk backing, chilling it out...
